At Wicked, does everybody sign autographs? I remember a while ago hearing something about Kristin and Joel going out a different exit and skipping the crowd. Is this true? What time do they usually leave the theater? The stage door is on 53rd, right?
When I went to Wicked, Kristin and Idina both came out the stage door. I had to leave after that, so I'm not sure if Joel came out. It's really hit or miss whether they come out or not, from what I've read. When you walk out of the Gershwin, cross the alley and the stage door is on the road to your right. I'd recommend getting there as quickly as possible, as there are usually pretty big crowds.
So...what street is the actual door on? Also my friend is seeing Wicked tomorrow, which I know is Idina's birthday. Do you think she will be performing?
Kristin and Idina are well known to leave the theater incognito, wearing huge dark sunglasses and swathed in white mink while ignoring the pitiful pleas of photographers and fans alike.

The actual door is on 51st St. Joel has never made an in-person appearance in the many times i have waited there. Kristen has ALWAYS come out and signed for nearly everyone happily, however some people on this board have had worse luck in meeting her. Idina also ALWAYS comes out, but she has always been reluctant to sign (though she does) and she has avoided the crowd twice.
have fun.

Yep, 51st street, just east of 8th.
Idina almost always comes out and signs, sometimes/sometimes not takes pics, and is very shy. Kristin was not coming out in the winter but now that the weather is nicer she has been coming out. Joel never comes out. Carole came out at the beginning of previews, but I personally have never seen her since. Norbert and Michelle come out sometimes, it's a hit or miss with them.
And yes, Idina will be performing tomorrow (her birthday!)
The exact address of the theatre is:
222 West 51st St
New York NY 10019
If you look up while at the stage door, you can actually see an elevator rise into the sky. Joel Grey is actually Charlie Bucket of Willy Wonka fame. The elevator given to Charlie at the end of the movie is real and Joel Grey has kept it with him through the years. Each day after Wicked, he rises into the clouds to avoid the angry/psychotic fans.
I have been there once, and Idina, Norbert, and Michelle all came out. I had to leave right after I got Idina's autograph, so I'm not sure if Kristin came out. I was very surprised anyone came out, because it was a very, VERY cold night. Idina was a bit shy, but she signed everyone's playbills and posters, and she even came prepared with a cool silver marker.
I've seen Joel and Kristin come out the 50th Street Door next
to the restaurant and hop in their waiting cars to avoid the fans
Some fans(like myself) are on to this and Kristin and Joel are generally gracious and sign anyway.
I love how you make it sound like you're a secret agent.

When I saw WICKED, only Norbert and Michelle came out. I happend to pass by the stage door when the show let out the night after, and only Idina came out. I think it is very hit or miss with everyone.
This is sort of related, but does anyone ever stop the ensemble members, not just wicked, but with any show? I've talked to some from various shows and they always seem to be the most gracious and talkative, does this happen with anyone else?
Back in '96 I talked with someone outside the stage door for about an hour. She was really an unknown actress and didn't have the biggest part in the show but it was one of the first Broadway shows I had ever seen and she WAS on stage so she was a star to me. She was waiting for a ride from someone and I was waiting for the star of the show and like I said we talked for well over an hour. I had wanted to be onstage back than and she gave me advice and told me stories and asked all about me, where I was from and my goals and dreams. I never forgot her and how kind and sweet she was to a starstruck kid.
I was so glad she won the Tony last year for her performance in NINE.
I've stopped ensemble members tons of times for different shows and they generally love it because they so often get overlooked.
what's the address of the 50st ST exit? or where is it? next to which restaurant?

That's cute Matt. Jane does seem like a sincerely nice person.
when i went idina, michelle, and norbert came out.
Ive been to the show 3 times now. Idina and Michelle have come out 51st street and been very very nice. Even on her bday, Idina stuck around to sign everything. Kristin I know slips out the 50st door sometimes, but if you catch her out there.. she will sign.
