I searched and couldn't find a post so...

Yay!
Right?

Posted: 9/26/08 at 12:31amquestionably....I mean, from what the producers said in most interviews about the show's creative process was that the majority of people involved with wanting to make it into a movie in the first place thought it would fare better as a musical. So, I suppose movie-izing the musical could work, but it will be interesting. I wonder who they'll cast.

Well, personally I can't get enough of Wicked and please don't trash me for saying that because I know a lot of people hate the show but a lot of people like it too and I think it could be fun. (ahh run on)
Everyone knew it was coming so obviously no surprise and for the die hard Wicked fans out there who can't see anything outside of a stage, I suggest staying away. (But you know you won't, you'll have to see it because Wicked is awesome in anyway, shape, or form)
So yay from me.

I love Wicked an as much as I would love a movie I think this is a bad move. I mean who could say what Wicked will be like in 2010 but if it's still doing well I think this movie could have a positive affect on the Broadway show.
Although if they did do a movie I would love to see Caissie Levy as Elphaba. I know she expressed interests on doing some movies and with how amazing she was as Elphaba I could totally see that being an excellent casting move.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 3:14amWouldn't we probably already know SOMETHING if it was going to be in theaters in 2010? There is a lot of preproduction stuff that goes into movies too, right?

Posted: 9/26/08 at 6:29amWhether this is true or not, I think it might be kind of good. I'm pretty ambivalent about "Wicked"-- I like a few of the songs, but the storyline and the book annoy me, and I can't bring myself to care about any of the characters. Still, I almost feel like it'd work better as a movie musical than a stage musical. And most movie musicals have a lot of cuts and edits, which I think can only HELP Wicked. There are a lot of songs and lines that the show would do better without.

As I posted about the AIDA movie "rumor"...
I won't believe this movie will ever happen until I am in a seat in a movie theatre and the lights go down.
Nor do I/will I believe any casting "rumors" until I am in a seat in a movie theatre and the lights go down and I see the people in the roles.
This is one of favorites of all time, so this means a lot to me.
I just want it done and I want it done well.

I read the book before there even was a musical. As I was reading it, the "Harry Potter" film franchise was hot (hotter than it is today; not to say it isn't still a hot commodity). I remember thinking to myself, "this would be a great book to turn into a film, great fantasy, a little sci/fi, but for adults."
So, I think if they make a film, they should make one of the book and NOT the musical.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 10:09amPersonally, I think the show might work better as a big fantasy movie. And they'll be forced to tinker with the book, which can only be good.

The reason it's on IMDB.com is that it was already announced for 2010 with Winnie Holzman working on the screenplay.
That's not a rumor. It was officially announced.
Whether or not it happens, or is pushed, or changed or blown up, who knows?
But this is reflecting an "official" announcement in the trades.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 3:48pmI hate to be a bubble burster, but folks please don't expect to see ANYONE from the stage productions (with the possible exception of taye diggs) in the movie, when and if it ever happens. They have learned their lesson from Rent and the Producers when it comes to casting movie musicals.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 6:08pmI got free tix to the show last week, having not seeing it since the original cast left. I actually enjoyed the show, and throughout the evening kept thinking to myself that with the right casting, WICKED could actually be a pretty solid movie musical.

What a hot mess it would be with Taye Diggs. Sorry, not a fan.

Posted: 9/26/08 at 10:52pmjust as clarification of my earlier post, I'm not advocating taye diggs to be in the hypothetical movie, however of the stage leads he probably comes the closest to being a "draw"

This has been talked about. It will be a movie. The same producer of the film will also be producing the Jesus Christ Superstar remake.

Posted: 9/27/08 at 12:15amSueleen, Joel will NOT be in it because he was in the original cast, which is just poison at the box office, as every single poster on this board who is also a hugely successful, blockbuster-producing movie mogul knows!!!

It is strange, I have seen the musical 6 times and I have only appreciated the book when I saw it in Melbourne. I used to have issues with it but now the only issue I have is Elphaba's reaction to finding Dillamond in the wizards palace, I mean she knew what the Wizard was up to before this.
They shouldn't make a movie for a long while - it is still doing too well at the box office. I reckon it will be released in 2013.

They certainly do, but first right of refusal can expire after a certain time, sometimes it's 5 years, sometimes it's 10.
