I know you guys hate the "What should I see in NY?" posts but some help would be appreciated. My boyfriend and I are going to see a matinee Next to Normal (that's a definite) but we would also like to try a night lottery. Our top three contenders would be Wicked, Rock of Ages, or Hair. We have each seen Wicked once already, but we want to see it again. We do know the lottery is difficult to win. We know Rock of Ages would be more of a fun night, not any substantial piece of epic theatre. And we don't know too much about Hair, but we have heard many good things. And we know these lotteries are easier.

So. The Hair and Wicked lotteries are entered at 5:30 and drawn at 6 and the Rock of Ages lottery is entered at 6 and drawn at 6:30.

So basically, what are your recommendations? Should we try Wicked? Is it worth it? And if we try Wicked and lose, would we have enough time to hustle to the Rock of Ages lottery? Should we skip Wicked and try for Hair?

There are so many possibilities, I would appreciate any input possible! Thank you!

There isn't much we can help you with since you seem to know all you need to to make a choice but....why not split up and go to both 6:00 lotteries and just stay in contact via cell phones. Just decide on which of the two you would prefer to go should you win both. My advice there: see Hair over Wicked -- see something you haven't as well as Hair is wonderful, and (IMHO) a much more gratifying experience then Wicked.

IF you then lose at both lotteries you can meet at ROA and both put your names in and hope for the best. They accept names up until the time they begin drawing.

Good luck.

Agreed with Dramamama. I'd split up and have one go to Hair and one to ROA, keeping in touch via cell. Hair is great. (I mean, it's Hair...) And ROA is a really fun night. Why see Wicked, something you've seen before?

You'll have to RUN to get to ROA on time. And you'll be fighting pre-show crowds on the sidewalk. Just a warning. But it's possible.

Also, between tours and return trips to New York, you will almost certainly have another chance to see WICKED. While HAIR and ROA are doing well now, no one can really be sure they will still be around the next time you visit.

You wouldn't have to run exactly...the Brooks Atkinson is about 3 blocks away from either theater.

I'd recommend seeing Hair over Wicked but it is possible to do both if the two of you split up.

Don't split up and just try the Hair lotto instead of the Wicked one. Wicked is much more difficult to win anyway, so why bother when you can have an extra chance at Hair? Not to mention you saw Wicked already. Go with something new. And if you lose the Hair lotto, do the Rock of Ages one.

I know people have beaten the odds, but if you want to see something, at least increase your chances at one show rather than splitting up between two, one of which is difficult to win.

Good point, Millie.

I would also go to HAIR, though I love WICKED but it will be around forever so you can see it next time.
