So I have seen the show here in Germany. I just want to know, if the original version Off-Broadway was also set in the 80's? I find it a bit confusing, having this music in a 20's style and a setting in the 80's. In my opinion it would fit better in the jazz age.

20's and 80's
I think it was set in the roaring 20's.

It was the second production of this show in Germany and both versions were set in the 80's. I didn't like it, in fact there is no reason for doing this change. Well I think the terrible costumes they could use are one reason.

That actually sounds like an interesting concept. I could definitely see it working. Too bad that production fell flat.
Haha, zoran, a high school in my area did a production of Romeo & Juliet that was set in Mexico. Except it sucked like you wouldn't believe.

That's so funny that BOTH productions were set in the 80's...I can assure you when it played in the States it took place in the 20s.
But hey, Germany in the 80's was a crazy time...
