I dono, I like MAtt. I think he can be goofy, but when he has to be serious he gets serious. I think that Cary was worse with the trying to get people to laugh but. At least it fits Mark as a character.
I think Justin and DMonroe are fantastic though...

Matt's serious when he needs to be, but my problem with that is that he's ONLY serious when he *needs* to be. He's so busy clowning around, out-of-character, that when it comes time to be serious, I find it very difficult to feel anything for Mark. He's so goofy and obnoxious that I don't like him from the onset, which to me, is detrimental to the character.

Emcee hit on everything I was going to about Matt. Although he's amusing in a train-wreck sort of way, I didn't care a whit about Mark. Ugh. He needs to stay in character...

Rawr. I liked Drew Lachey better than I liked Matt Caplan.
That's saying something.
I really like Justin, though.

If I weren't already a Broadway Legend twice-over, I would totally make this my new sn here on BWW.
And I really like Justin too. He's the best Angel I've seen.

Justin is very, very talented, but his Angel just shows off too much, I never bought that he was sick. It is over the top, with all the extra kicks and jumps. I understand why people like him, it just is not how I prefer the character.
I can't buy anything Matt does, his "serious" moments are often as tossed aside as the comedic ones, and his "I'm the one of us to survive" makes me want to jump out of my seat and beat him with an acting 101 textbook.

I'm not sure if your kidding around or whatnot. But I think Marcus is such a fanastic Collins that it is terrible to see him as Mr. J.
And as for Matt... I like him. His, "I'm here, nowhere." gets me everytime. I think his Mark uses the goofyness as a defense mechanism. It's his shield to the world.

Haha agreed. And orangeskittles, you and I joined BWW on the same day!

Does Bythesword have to see the show?
Or is Bythesword Matt?

Well she is in love with Will.
And she hates the show more than me.
It's going to be an internal battle.

Does anyone think this is a way to refresh the stage show for all the new/old Rent fans after seeing the movie?
Maybe all new cast members?
I saw Rent about a year ago and actually stood up and walked out while everyone was giving thier standing ovation, I was so mad!
By the way, love Will Chase, he is a Chicago boy!

Maybe Will can help her to enjoy the show? I mean, if Adam did a show I hated, I'd go see it. BTS, are you going to go see him?

Rent has just given itself a big artistic boost to match up to its present level of attention by getting Will Chase to fill the lead!

This would be a VERY good thing. Now all they need to do is get Matt the hell out of that show. I think the rest of the cast is pretty good for now.

What does WWE Mimi mean?
Anyway, I saw the show again last March, and the only main character that didn't seem phoned in or a mockery of the show was Roger, Cary was out that day, so I saw Jay. I completely agree that they need an overhaul of the entire show.

You know, emcee, you are completely correct on Matt's Mark. I couldn't put into words how I felt about him, but you did it.
I saw it back in August, and loved Cary Shields. But, unfortunately, he's not coming back. Shame.

I have a question. With all the talk about the original cast being too old to do the film, why is there not a discussion about Will being too old for the show?
(Nothing against Will ... he is very talented. I knew him once upon a time, way back when, in Chicago while he was doing SON OF FIRE, and I went to college with his wife, Lori.)
I am just curious.

YAY for a new Roger. Ok I miss Cary Shields like its my job (oh it is) and can't wait to see what he does next
but woo for Will being Roger...its a nice change
just to remind people. Matt is in the show for another couple months. He is leaving in March 2006. he wants to focus more on his music and do gigs at various colleges and other stuff. He is an amazing performer outside of Rent. very talented and Overtones is a great album. his new album should be coming out soon...look out

DBillyP, I was going to say the same thing. I think will might even be a few years *older* than Adam.

I loved Will Chase in Lennon and I'm something of a fringe Rent fan. I really wish I could see him in this!

Who is Will Chase? Was he Roger on Broadway or one of the national tours?
