My opinion after seeing the production....probably not.

His performance was charming, but not especially memorable. If anyone will get a tony nod, it will be Douglas Sills - unless the "Assassins" cast fills up the category.

I adore Hunter & think his performance is terrific, but it's a matter of who else is in the field, as so many have pointed out in this thread. Euan Morton is giving a much stronger performance in Taboo & Hugh Jackman is performing a Herculean task at BFO...and so on. I guess we need to wait & see what happens w/ the shows yet to open. They could blow everyone out of the water.

And if Assassins stays open.. i cant imagine many people wanting to go see a musical about terrorists.

It's a limited run, which I would assume makes it unlikely to close before its pre-determined closing date. I think there will be enough interest for it to run through two months, and given it is Sondheim and has quite a cast, I would bet on an extension as well.

I think Benzy's predictions hit it on the nose. I think all of the people he mentioned will get nods. I think Hunter deserve one, but I think Sills really deserves one. He really makes the role his own, and plays more then one part in the show. He works hard; I think he deserves to be recognized.

i think the best lead actor in a musical wil be:
Hugh Jackman, The Boy from Oz
Alfred Molina, Fiddler on the Roof
Euan Morton, Taboo
John Tartaglia, Avenue Q
Hunter Foster, Little Shop of Horrors

but hugh will def. win!

The "extra" parts Sills plays in LSOH arent exactly the most demanding and complicated roles....
