Quite honestly, I'm not sure Sutton's performance in Little Women is exactly Tony-worthy. She's good, but I wasn't so impressed that I'd hand an award right over to her.
That would be so wrong. I can't imagine MMc won't get a nomination. Although crazier things have happened.
I agree Girlfriend - her performance was good, but not outstanding to warrent a nomination. She may be overlooked, but not likely. She is the Broadway darling of the moment.
I think her performance absolutely warrants a nomination. And she is the darling now, but DRS and SPAMALOT have yet to open. Things change very quickly.

Oh, I think she'll be nominated, no doubt. I'm talking about actually winning.
Yes, I don't think she'll win either. I think Ramirez already has it locked up.
"Sutton is great, and from what I've heard she's wonderful in Little Women, but she just won a Tony recently....I think they should spread the wealth..."
That is among one of the most asinine statements I have read on here in quite some time. The Tony Awards are not about spreading the wealth. It's not a charity. It's about who gave the best performance of the season in the eyes of the theatrical community and if that is Sutton Foster this year then she will win regardless of the fact that she just won two years ago. If that were the case, then Audra McDonald would not have won her 4 Tony Awards (3 of which were won from back to back nominations in two year intervals from 1994-1998 ).
I don't understand why they keep putting shows that IMO would work better in a smaller theater than at the gigantic Virginia. Personally I think Little Women would work better in a more intimate space. A full-fledged hit could survive at the Virginia. A show just scraping by (Little Women, Little Shop) or not getting by at all (Flower Drum Song) might stand more of a chance in a theater that doesn't have as many seats to fill.

I was under the impression the Virginia is considered a smaller house for musicals. Historically speaking, haven't quite a few plays even run there?
Virgina is by nomeans considered a large house for musicals! It is not the most intimitate theatres but its is on the smaller side for a musical to run in.
It is considered a smaller house although it's orchestra is really long. It's a little bit bigger than the O'Neill.
The problem is theatre availability. Thankfully, there aren't any available theaters

You beat me to the punch! Those were my thoughts exactly, right down to the Audra example.
I think Little Women will definitely last until June.
And I absolutely ADORED Sutton in the role of Jo! I would be thrilled if she won the Tony...
But I am also looking forward to DRS and Spamalot, and am open to the possibility of Sherie Rene Scott or Sara Ramirez putting in amazing performances as well.
Yay for there being lots of competition in the category! That's a good thing!
Sorry to drag Wicked into this, buuut. I think many critics felt Chenoweth did a better job, but Menzel won, I think because she didn't win for RENT.
The same thing will probably happen here, Foster, probably won't get it.
Will it last til June? Yes
Will it be nominated for Tony's? Yes
Will Little Women walk away with any? No.
sorry lw fans, but it's true.
