And Will Journey's End snag all four nominations for best supporting male actors?

Boyd Gaines as Uncle is a lion in this one and fierce to beat, yet John Ahlin is haunting as Trotter.

Together with Mays and Sands--so much courage in one cast...

And Justin Blanchard such a delicious weasel. How many can qualify as supporting? Which of the lot will get the noms? Who will ultimately skip off with the prize? Updated On: 4/1/07 at 11:08 PM

Did anyone else notice the little table dance where Stanhope at first meal seating assigns Raleigh to Trotter's spot at the table (subconsciously upgrading Raleigh because he is an old friend and of the same social level) and Trotter makes himself a little introduction and dances around reclaiming his spot with Raleigh none the wiser?

re: Will They Call

If what I think I saw was correct, it was very cute and showed Trotter was no dummy.

I think that Gaines might have a shot at a nod (and Dancy has a somewhat more remote chance at a slot in the insanely competitive Lead category), but I doubt that the cast will get more than one of the five Feature nominations in a season that includes:

Billy Crudup, COAST OF UTOPIA
Richard Easton, COAST OF UTOPIA
Jason Butler Harner, COAST OF UTOPIA
Philip Bosco, HEARTBREAK HOUSE
Anthony Chilsholm, RADIO GOLF
John Earl Jelks, RADIO GOLF
Chandler Williams, TRANSLATIONS
Niall Buggy, TRANSLATIONS
Alan Cox, TRANSLATIONS
Julian Ovenden, BUTLEY
Johnny Galecki, LITTLE DOG LAUGHED
Andrew Scott, THE VERTICAL HOUR
John Mahoney, PRELUDE TO A KISS (unless he's Lead)
Alan Tudyk, PRELUDE TO A KISS
Denis O'Hare, INHERIT THE WIND
Byron Jennings, INHERIT THE WIND

Someone from CORAM BOY?

Clearly I haven't seen Radio Golf or Coram Boy yet, but as of right now this is how I would like to see the category go:

• Billy Crudup, The Coast of Utopia
• Boyd Gaines, Journey’s End
• Byron Jennings, Heartbreak House
• Byron Jennings, Inherit the Wind
• Stark Sands, Journey’s End

I think it would be amazing for Byron Jennings to get nominated for both shows, but I think that he is more likely to get nominated for only Inherit the Wind. However, if there is any justice in the world, the award will go to Billy Crudup.

****thread jack - This is one of the most artisically rewarding years for actors in both plays and musicals I can recall. I'll add "in my lifetime" since I'm sure in the glory days of Bway there some amazing years too.

And I can't recall a season so ripe with good new musicals. GG. SA, Curtains, Mary Poppins and there is still more to go. The Tony's are actually going to be suspenseful this year. Except for Musical Actress, which rightfully seem already engraved with Ebersole's name.

Just had to share my excitement.

As you were.

....but the world goes 'round

The moment when Boyd Gaines as "Uncle" kisses his wedding ring...

And when he who is so kind and never loses his temper loses his temper with Trotter as he is interrupted while trying to compose what may be a last letter to his wife.

Stark Sands' voice was a bit faint at the beginning of the evening show last night though it picked up volume as the show went on and his acting was wonderful, especially at the end of his role as noted by a couple members of the audience near me who were straining to hear but could not.

Are you keeping up your pre-show warm-ups for the second shows, me boyo? You're in the running and must keep up with those masters on the stage with you to challenge them for that Tony!

Which brings up the wonderful thing about Journey's End--it's all NATURAL VOICE and not mic'd, which I love!!!!!
