Sweet Jesus, that movie has scared me since I was 6 years old. I have a genuine phobia of turning into a blueberry. And of short orange people. Gah.

Isn't Tim Burton redoing the movie but not as a musical w/ Johnny Depp as the title character?

I'm surprised it hasn't been made into a musical yet. Although I'm getting a bit tired of these children's movies getting turned into musicals and dominating the UK and Broadway theatre scene (Chitty, Mary Poppins, Beauty and the Beast), this one almost cries, "stage musical!"

It would be...interesting. And yeah, Tim Burton is doing a non-musical remake with Johnny Depp.

For me, Willy Wonka should die if Gene Wilder does not play his role.

Well before some of the nice people on this board jump down your throat for not knowing this, I'll point out that the idea of Wonka as a B'way musical has been discussed before. If you use the "search" function located just above the threads you should be able to find a couple of threads about it.
Rest in peace, Iflitifloat.

But everything's been discussed before.

Music Theatre International will soon be releasing a stage version of "Willie Wonka Junior" - part of their JUNIOR series of one-hour versions shows to be performed by chidren and teens under 18 only.
This is because the authors got tired of hundreds of elementary and junior high schools doing their own illegal productions each year.

I agree that only Gene Wilder should play this part. But I would still love to see this as a stage show

Isn't Gene Wilder a bit old for the part, and are looking for a younger age to play it?

This is all so amusing. Funny how the new poster starting the "Idea for Kristen Chenoweth" wasn't shown so much tolerance for taking of anything in stride.
And, no NuggetMonkeys, within a certain clique I would never be considered one of the *nice* of this board.
But I've also never been disingenuous.

I wasnt suggesting Gene Wilder to play Willy Wonka again. I was just saying that no one would ever be able to play the part like him.

I might scream and start crying and throwing things if this ever does happen. That is my opinion.

Well whoever is doing the movie its being shot right now in London I think, and Johnny Depp is playing Willy Wonka. Oh but its not a musical though - you're right.

Completely against this idea until i read those last two words..
Alan Cumming.
He would make the perfect Willy Wonka for a stage version.
