I may have to with a lineup like that, though my priority is getting first and last performance at Hackney.

re: Wimbledon Panto

Pamela Anderson and Paul O'Grady are to share the role of Genie Of The Lamp at the Wimbledon Theatre this pantomime season..
Ms Anderson will have the role until the end of Dec and then Mr O'Grady take over the role. Two more major celebrities are to be announced very soon..
This is being announced in the press release as a first when a major role is being split between four major performers.

Anderson will appear on stage from Sunday December 13 to Sunday December 27. O'Grady will assume the role from Tuesday January 5 to Sunday January 10.

Brian Blessed is also in the cast of 'Aladdin'.

The theatre better get ready to handle a few confused punters who will inevitably turn up thinking they are seeing the two in one show!

I, personally, don't see the point in this kind of casting for a 6 week panto run.

I think as long as they advertise it correctly people won't get confused and they still have more celebrities lined up to play the genie and others for various roles just none confirmed just yet!!!

Neither are know for their 'family' entertainment values for, above all things, panto!

There are no words to express how much I hate this casting and how inappropriate it is! Panto casting has really gone down hill and this just screams of stunt casting. I know panto has always had names, but normally associated with family entertainment! Not someone who has posed nude loads of times and had sex tapes done!

re: Wimbledon Panto

Princeton you are extending my feelings here.
It is shameful casting and just shows what the producers are thinking. The quality of Wimbledon pantos has been going downhill since the late 90s and this just hastens its demise.
God knows what names they'll come up with for the other 2 as yet unannounced.

Its amazing the expense that this will bring to the production.
Four names, each has to be rehearsed with the each new lead. God help the full company. They will be rehearsing every day of the run PLUS performing 2 full shows a day every day for 5 weeks!

I had semi-high hopes for Wimbledon after they were wise enough to buy one of Susie McKenna's old scripts for last year's show, but with this sort of revolving door casting? Ohhhhh dear. Especially since I saw Britt Eckland fail to be a passable Good Fairy last year and blondes known for assets other than their acting are a good reason now to stay away.

In other news, I just booked my tickets for the first and last performances of the PROPER Aladdin over in Hackney. Chances are they'll be going all out with this one, so book now while you still can.

Ugh that's just horrid casting!

I do like Paul O'Grady and I'm a bit disappointed at his invovment. As for Pamela Anderson, dear lord, yeah that's a name I think of when I think 'Fun family entertainment'.

What happened to an old fashioned dame and some minor local 'celebs'?

re: Wimbledon Panto

lol Mama!

Actually you know what I hate too-all the gimicks like 3D Genies (ok I admit I didn't see that one in Cardiff last year) Robots and ice skating!! why?! all I want is a bloke in a dress and some sweets thrown out at the audience-oh wait I don't think you can even do that now?!

Ok rant over, I'll go back in my corner now.

The Cadburys sponsored pantos (qdos?) of the 90s were great...youd get stars like (off top of my memory) Russ Abbott, John Nettles, Lesley Joseph, Rosemary Ford, Su Pollard, Jeffrey Holland, Brian Conley, Fern Britton (in her younger slimmer days), Paul Nicholas, a star from Neighbours or Home and Away and possibly a gladiator. Something for all the family. Good sets, funny scripts and decent songs.

Aah, Harry Worth, that takes me back.

"My names Harry Worth...I don't know why, it just is!"

Anyone old enough as me who agree that Harry Hill is a lot like like Harry Worth?
