Wishful thinking?

Posted: 8/1/04 at 4:35amWhich musical have you not seen done professionally that you would kill to see done on Broadway? For me, it would be PARADE (obviously). I just listened to the OBCR for the first time a few days ago, and I can't get over it. It is so emotionally charged in so many ways. Everything about the music haunts me and intrigues me and entertains me. Plus, the fact that it is based on a true story really makes me interested. Anyone else?

I saw a production of Parade (albeit a very bad one, couldn't hear a word they were singing) and it's got a lot of unfixable flaws; a massive chorus of male singers not really knowing what to do with themselves, large difficult staging, small intimate scenes on a stage set too big.
However, for me (and this is a personal opinion), its problem is that it is simply too big. The success in JRB's other 2 shows comes in its intimacy, here that is lost. It also makes it a sucker for being revived or staged due to budgeting costs. He recently said that the only place it could be done in Britain was at the National Theatre, because they'd do it justice.

Oh, so many!
SUNDAY IN THE PARK WITH GEORGE (listening to this right now, actually)
MARTIN GUERRE (I love Boublil & Schonberg, and was all excited about this show....until it fizzled out of town)
SUNSET BLVD (I always thought this was one of ALW's stronger musicals in his later years)
A CHORUS LINE
COMPANY
EVITA
INTO THE WOODS
THE LAST FIVE YEARS

Posted: 8/1/04 at 5:49pmIt wouldn't have to be on Broadway, but I would love to see a concert version of Songs for a New World. All the songs would remain intact, and they could use Broadway stars for the four parts.

I've been reading this board for a while but this question finally motivated me to join and post!.
I had the privilege of seeing Parade at the University of Michigan a few years ago and was extremely impressed. I would love to see that done on Broadway!.
Other shows I would love to see professionally done:
Floyd Collins
Sideshow
Last 5 Years
Martin Guerre
Wild Party
The Last Session
A New Brain
Chess
Tick Tick Boom
Gosh, there are so many and I'm sure I'm leaving alot out.
