I don't know who Jesse is, but I do LOVE this review!
"Broadway has been waiting a long time for a new smash hit musical, a big show with appeal to every audience segment that has the songs, dances and story that will get word-of-mouth buzzing. That show has arrived and it's Billy Elliot, officially opening tomorrow at the Imperial. It is not merely good. I think it is one of the greatest musicals ever to 'shine' inside a Broadway theater."

Jesse is one of the more eloquent writers on the message boards (plural to include this and ATC). I don't know if he does it for love of the game or if he's a published writer (he deserves to be), but it's always a pleasure to read, even when I respectfully disagree.
It just so happens that I think he's right on the money with BILLY ELLIOT.

Just like in Animal Farm: Squealer is an intriguing character in Orwell's Animal Farm. He's first described as a manipulator and persuader. Orwell narrates, "He could turn black into white."....
Coincidence? I Think Not

As do you Smaxie.
"The show never seems canned, but actually a little messy just like the real world."
And just like the British, with our imperfect National Health Service teeth, awful music hall traditions and coarse humour. This reviewer really gets it. Apart from the "u" in favourite ofcourse.

That too was one of my favorite aspects of the production. Broadway musicals have grown increasingly slick and packaged for worldwide consumption. Billy Elliot, though clearly a juggernaut on the international stage and with the clout of Universal behind it, still feels personal and handmade.
