Thank you for the update. How did you find out? I have tickets for Sunday matinee.
I wouldn't count on the show going on Sunday.
That's too bad. I hope Donna gets well. I also say, get her understudy ready. I don't think it's good for business to starting canceling performances so early on.
Oh my God! I'm supposed to see it a week from tomorrow, and I'm starting to get worried.
I hope it doesn't effect opening night.

Maybe everybody who said she's wrong for the part of Mama Rose is right and she is calling in sick because she isn't up to the ... oh, wait, what are we talking about?
I'm sure it's because she didn't get an Outer Critics Circle nomination.

She must be enraged! Did she get the Drama Desk?

I can't see how anyone could cast Donna Murphy as Ruth Sherwood. A Roz Russell she ain't. At this point Donna probably realizes that she's a round peg ina a square hole and will call in sick for the rest of the run.
Sad. Truly sad.
Dollypop,
Give her a break and wait until you see her! Maybe she is sick.
By the way, has anyone noticed that from MY SISTER EILEEN to WONDEFUL TOWN many of the actresses who played Ruth were much too old for the part. Russell was right when she played the part on screen, but a bit past it when she essayed the part on stage. Actually, there was one actress who played the part who was actually the right age: Carol Channing. From what I've heard she was wonderful in the part.

Donna Murphy was great in the role at Encores at City Center. One of the reasons Wonderful Town is on Broadway is because Donna kept pushing for a Broadway revival.

The woman got the flu and her doctor advised her to stay home, get well so that she can come back full strength and do her job. She has already proved she is up to the role and her performance is so strong that a revival was mounted just to showcase it. She didn't miss lots of performances in her other shows in which she was the star, so there is no need to jump on her just because she got the flu. The producers are doing the smart thing by cancelling now and letting her get well instead of asking her to play when she is sick like Berndette did in GYPSY. And Berndette got better and hasn't had any unscheduled absences since.
DP--you know I love you, but you are not correct in that post--she is surprisingly wonderful in the role! There was a man who saw the original and felt she was better than Roz. =) She's up for it!

DP- COME ON!!! I'm beginning to find you extremely obnoxious. Donna Murphy is a wonderful actress and from the snipets I have seen of the show she seems sensational. Her performance in Passion was by far the best I have ever seen on Broadway (can't say the same for the show.) She is extremely versitial and just listen to the woman talk. What an intelligent actress. Sorry DollyPop but your way off on this one.
