Chicago was well done, so I hope La Cage aux Folles is as successful.

I admit being confused at first. You know, The Birdcage and whatnot. But duh, The Birdcage isn't a musical! I would imagine this would be almost a mirror image of the stage production, no, so as NOT to have it be The Birdcage Part 2?
YAYYYYYY!!! I do believe I'm getting back some of my faith in the entertainment industry. It's been a good 8 years since I've had any of that. Hmmmm no just acid reflux. Well if this movie happens, I'm sure that'd do the trick!

Not a bad idea for a movie musical. Better than Footloose anyway. Sorry to threadjack slighly here, but anyone know if thats still happening?
Back to La Cage!
Now to speculate on casting!
My bet is if Gary Beach transfers well to the big screen in The Producers, he's on. I also wouldn't mind Nathan Lane, as he played the same role (well, sorta) in The Birdcage.
I vote BD Wong

I have both the "La Cage Aux Folles" and "The Birdcage" movie neither of which are musicals. The "La Cage" is in french and "The Birdcage" one is more pop than anything else. Neither one gets to the same dark place that the musical gets to at the end of act one. This could be really good if it can get to a dark place and complete the LA CAGE movie trillogy.
I'd love to see nathan l. or gary b. take the role of albin. Daniel Davis would make a great Georges.

I'd actually like to see this happen - with an African-American cast.
I was hoping for a Bollywood production, actually.
Shakalaka Baby
No offense, but wasn't that THE BIRDCAGE just without music? Have yet to see either, but that is what I was told.
In any case - YAY for movie musicals!
The birdcage did have some songs, but they were not orriginal songs (ie. "We Are Family")
This is good news...but only if they get the right cast.
For Georges in the film:
John Travolta or perhaps:
Richard Gere
Robin Williams(he played this in the nonmusical The Birdcage)
Matthew Broderick
for Albin:
Kevin Spacey or perhaps:
Johnny Depp
Russell Crowe
Nathan Lane (he played opposite Williams in Birdcage film)
Clay Aiken
I honestly couldn't see anyone except Clay in that role. And Reuben should play Georges.
I could see Clay as Albin if he were 20 or 30 years older but he is too young right now.
Something inside me is saying that the stars won't be HUGE names but perhaps known theatre personalities.
I think Clay could pull it off (you should pardon the expression) and appear on film to be the necessary age to have acted as mother to Georges' son for many years.
Can you imagine him singing "I am What I am?
yaaaaaaaay!
Albin is a very DIFFICULT ROLE. The actor must go through SO MANY changes(both physically and emotionally) on stage (or screen) and I doubt Clay(no professional acting experience) could pull it off.
That said I would LOVE to hear him sing "I am what I am"
Harvey must be tickled pink and applying some more mascara.
Well, not anymore. Now he has a beard for Tevye.
Mascara and beards don't work.
Congratulations to Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein.
