I wouldn't say SA is the best, but is for sure ain't the worst (and I'm not the biggest fan of the show, either). Lizzy, honestly, give up the SA bashing. Really.
I would also have to say Oklahoma! I love the opening to the show, and for its time, it was revolutionary.
And, maybe I'm biased because I'm doing the show right now, but I love the title song from Babes in Arms. It's such a fun songs, it's a blast.
Also, Another Openin', Another show from Kiss Me, Kate. Love that song.
So, I mean, it's not so much a huge number or anything, but I have always, always loved the opening to AIDA. I love song as a whole, but Sherie singing it on the OBCR... yes, yes. Indeed, yes.
BERNARDA ALBA is pretty cool, too. It takes a little getting used to at first, I think, for me, at least, but I like it.
BAT BOY. Holler if you hear me.
I think that DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS opening is no good.
Hm, I think I like more than I dislike.
^You just reminded me how much I love Aida's opening number.

I wouldn't say that 'Trouble' is that bad! It's catchy!
BEST:
Les Mis - Prologue (Love it!)
Miss Saigon - The heat is on in Saigon (It's quuiite good!)
Hairspray - Good Morning, Baltimore (I didn't like the show, but this was great.
WORST:
The King and I - I whistle a Happy Tune (I Love the show, but why, oh why?!)
Chess - The story of Chess (Not half as good as the rest of the show)
The Sound of Music - Preludium (Just plain awful. The title number would be a far better opening)

Oh god I LOVE Aida's opening when the music makes a sudden halt and Sherie sings " This is the story of a love that florished in a time of hate" o man gets me every single time....anyway...
Best:
A Chorus Line
Aida
Little Shop of Horrors
Beauty and the Beast
Lion King
Into The Woods
Avenue Q
Wicked
Hairspray
Footloose( We did this in September and the opening is a blast with a lot of energy)
Worst:
Hmmmm I can't think of an opening that is the Worst
I love how in Aida's opening number it violently switches to rock and roll chord. Combined with Sherie's voice is Ah-mahzing.

Yeah it is so great, as soon as Sherie starts singing you easily get hooked, and as you said it all the sudden switches from a nice slow song to sudden rock and roll and you believe that you're being taken back....
Best:
The Wedding Singer - didn't like the show, loved the opening number.
Worst:
I didn't like All Shook Up's - the overture was so great and fast paced, and it went into such a slow song.

why can't I say I don't like something? You bash shows all the time. So I'm not allowed to say "worst: Spring Awakening"??? that is so stupid. just because I haven't seen it doesn't mean I'm "not allowed" to comment about it. I just don't like the first song on the CD. jeez, why does everyone always feel the need to immediately pounce on me when I give an opinion, but then everyone else gives opinions all the time and you let it go. please just let me post freely like everyone else. you always call into question what I have seen, but I am the only one you do that to. please get over it and just treat me equal to everyone else.
Want to know the secret to people your opinion and you as a poster? Stop making idiotic comments like calling a show the worst of all time when you haven't even seen it. Sure Spring Awakening does not have the best opening number but it works better on stage. You take every chance you get to say this show is terrible even though you have not seen it.

best: AIDA, Tarzan
worst: wicked
PS: when did I say it was the worst show of all time??? i just said I didn't like the opening number. it might be different on stage, but right now listening to the CD i don't like the first song. that's all - i don't hate the show or whatever.

Well lizzy, you were the one who said that because Lea Michele said the f word you thought she was disgusting and you hoped the show failed miserably....that makes me think you hate the show.

Wanna Be a Foster, who the HELL do you think you are to say "performing isn't my thing"??!!! You know nothing about me or what I like to do. Go fu** yourself and let me have an opnion. dammit some people on here are such retards.
Lizzy you need to shut the **** up and go away. You are disgrace to Broadway and to this board. Nobody likes you, and you really suck at life. And I am telling you this so that you don't **** up the rest of your life.

Best 5:
Tradition- Fiddler
The Prologue/Fugue for Tin Horns (love this song!)in Guys and Dolls
West Side Story
Lion King
Rock Island Line- Music Man
Worst-
The King and I-(very bland beginning)
Also the escapade with you hating Lea Michele because she said the f word. Then you proceeded to make false accusations that she was a poor result of a stage mother. Also you have said people shouldn't see Spring Awakening because all you would see is "20 year olds screw onstage for 2 hours."
EDIT: Basically ditto to Neddy.
You said it was the worst show of all time here.

I actually think that Spring Awakening has a very intimate opening number MYSELF HAVING SEEN THE SHOW.
Lizzya. You continue to amaze me with your double standards. But please be serious or I might consider you a sock puppet.
Best opening for me would have to be Tarzan (even though the show was not the best, it definately has the most amazing opening visually and i LOVE the song) there are so many good openings but that one sticks out............... Worst would be Avenue Q, i just don't like the avenue q theme, it sucks to be me is good and stuff but i just hate the "theme"

Guys just drop it, this threads about BEST and WORST opening numbers not lets bicker and lower ourselves into childish manners, Mr. neddyfrank2 telling someone "Nobody likes you, and you really suck at life" is immature and you don't have the call for it being that you don't know this person; I would say if I knew you that you are a disgrace if you are a 30 year old yelling at a teenager telling them they don't have a life when your idea of life is telling off other people....Of course I don't know you so I can't make that judgement...and why does every thread suddenly have to turn into a Spring Awakening argue?

1.) Don't call me honey and 2.) It doesn't take long to figure out how most of the people here act

I just think it's hilarious when Lizzy says she has nothing against the show now but said it was the worst show in the world herself in previous threads.

And how do you know that?
I really think it is funny that a boy who looks like he is 17 is trying to call someone almoust twice as old as he is immature.
Aladdin, you haven't seen Lizzy's past comments.

I think she thought not liking the show was causing people to not like her. So she thought she could just say that and people would like her more.Or possibly she barely even knew the show and now she just bought the CR and she kind of likes it.
