Sure, there are already witches on Broadway, but I think this could be such an insanely good show if translated appropriately. This is really just for fun... but imagine if the Sanderson sisters were something like this...

Winifred - Patti LuPone
Sarah - Sutton Foster
Mary - Debra Monk

There is obviously a hive-mind about this one... Hopefully it'd be better than the just-OK movie. (Though sometimes that's the best source for re-imaginings-- things that can be improved upon.)

I like it better than Spiderman the Musical but whose to say? Until someone is backing it this is just talk.

Mary Testa was one of the first people I thought of. She'd be AWESOME in this.

oh wow... I didn't even think of some of those before. I think Winifred should still be Patti LuPone, but with Annaleigh Ashford as Sarah and Mary Testa as Mary. That'd be perfect! What about Max, Binx, Allison, and Dani? They would be the other principles as well...

So which is more annoying: The endless threads bitching that nothing is original anymore and that all new musicals are adapted from crappy movies or the endless thread obsessing over adapting crappy movies into new musicals?

I don't know how you would make this work as a musical. The kids are on the run from the witches for a large portion of the film. Are they going to just suddenly hunker down and start singing? And what kinds of things would the characters sing about? You could only do so many songs about the witches being dumbfounded by modern technology before that got tired.

"The gods who nurse this universe think little of mortals' cares. They sit in crowds on exclusive clouds and laugh at our love affairs. I might have had a real romance if they'd given me a chance. I loved him, but he didn't love me. I wanted him, but he didn't want me. Then the gods had a spree and indulged in another whim. Now he loves me, but I don't love him." - Cole Porter

If they were going to do witches - wouldn't The Witches Of Eastwick be a better choice? They could get around all the special effects, I think. The characters are certainly better developed. Hell, maybe Jack Nicholson would even consent to be in it!

I would literally crap myself if this happened...and be there opening night.

Carolee is a GREAT choice, I think, for Winifred.
Anna Leigh Ashford for Sarah. Or Laura Bell.
Lea DeLaria for Mary!!!

Neil Patrick Harris for Billy! :-P Or Cheyenne, he has more of a "zombie"peal to him, anyhow.

Oh this would be good fun.

[Edit: Laurence O'Keefe should do the lyrics.

Mr.Midwest- my answer to you would be Oliver! Happens all of the time.

I like Beth Leavel and Carolee. How old is Testa? This is family entertainment and does well on TV. Not to be compared to complete failures.

Witches of Eastwick, it's alright not as entertaining to me. Not into real Old Men stories right now.

Just nab that Toby from Sweeney Todd! His voice is amazing.

Imagine Act 1 ending with Winifred and Sarah flying over the audience on their brooms, as Mary joins them on her vaccuum cleaner...

I think it would be a really fun musical!

Why, just why? Witches of Eastwick which was a MUCH better (albeit different) Witch movie, is practically unwatchable on stage. Don't see this happening and the only casting name that fits on this thread, is Mary Testa. Deborah Monk, Bundy, I don't think so.
