Ive decided to dedicate the rest of my night writing to people on Broadway (I have so many too *Sherie Rene Scott, Shosh, J.LA, Carole Shelley, Sutton Foster, Victoria Clark, Sara Ramirez, Norbert Leo Butz, Maureen McGovern, John Ligthgow.....*)
Anway, I was wondering what I should say (if I want a signed headshot, should I ask for it?) and how the envelope's address should read (I think I know...just wanna make sure).
Also, what are the zip codes for Bway Theaters. I used to know but I totally forgot. :)

It depends what theatre.... most of them have different zip codes, unless they're right near each other.
I know off the top of my head that the Imperial and Shubert are 10036. Actually, off the top of my head, the Shubert is: 225 West 44th St. I believe the Virginia is 10019.

Bump.
How do I write the address on the envelope? And if I want a headshot in return, do I send another envelope so that they can send the headshot back?

Posted: 5/1/05 at 12:03amSASEs (Self Addressed Stamped Envelopes) are pretty standard if you'd like something back

You should forward the address to the actor/esses name first, then the address of the theatre. Even past stars, as well. If you forwarded a letter to Idina, the Gerswhin would probably send it to the respective place. Like so...
Idina Menzel (Or Sho, or JLT, whoever)
c/o The Gershwin Theatre
222 W. 51st St.
New York, NY 10019
If you want a headshot, send an extra envelope that's stamped and addressed to where they want it send it to.
Disclaimer: I've never written a letter to a "Broadway star" before, so please don't kill me over this information, because it's probably wrong.

48th on up are 10019
10036 goes to 40th, I believe. In midtown, anyway. Once you start going East and West the zips change. It's just like any other city.
If you are requesting something, always send a SASE -- it's common courtesy.
And yes, the correct way to write to someone is: (example)
Sara Ramirez
c/o The Shubert Theatre Stage Door
225 West 44th Street
New York, NY 10036

Posted: 5/1/05 at 2:27pmSome stars are different. Idina sent her photo in her own envelope and that gave me an idea of the Wicked casts size envelope so I would send a smaller one. I sent one too small to Barrett Foa of Avenue Q and he sent it back to me inside his bigger envelope. They are NORMALLY nice about it. But if you want a photo, it doesnt hurt to ask. But expect a few weeks for a response. And most of the time all you will recieve is a photo back and not a written response, but again, depends on the performer.

Enclose a 9x12 envelope with the proper postage. I've worked for people who won't respond without that.
They're doing you a favor - make it as easy as possible for them (or, more likely, their very busy assistants) and you'll get the best response.

Along those lines--i wrote to two composers who currently have a musical playing (not Mark!) I was floored--they both replied with gracious hand-written thank you notes.

From personal experience, let me add:
Be very careful what you write. It is amazing how someone can misinterpret your message with unexpected consequences.

Posted: 5/1/05 at 4:26pmIf you go to playbill.com, it has a list of all the shows playing with the cast AND the theatre address. On all of them. You always have the address.
