Will this maddness never end? Now your friend is bitching cause someone else got the witch role?

What kind of elementary/junior high kids group is this company? And yes..you are kids...kids who don't appreciate the fact that they got cast in a show over other people. So instead of accepting that fact or using it to see what you can improve for future auditions, you just bitch about it.

A show..no matter if it's community theater, school theater or Broadway is a community of actors who first and foremost appreciate the fact that they are on stage and getting the chance to do what they love.

How many people will be sitting in the audience who would have loved to have been a tree in ITW? I tell you, those are the REAL actors for they would have appreciated the opportuity to be in the show.

You, sir, are no actor.

I hate that, this one girl sings falsetto and she sounds so horrible, and she got the better part then I did. It just sucks to be me!

or to put it a little less condemningly:

a lot of people know selfish, whiny, self-absorbed actors and a lot of people just assume that all actors will be this way. i'm sure you're a good fella, but you ought not fuel this stereotype and make things less pleasant for the actors who know how to at least appear humble and grateful. the key is to keep your self-promotion internal, only to be admitted in trusted company or anytime alcohol is involved. and whining is never attractive.

I dunno about the singers over actors thing, BB. I think it depends on the score. For something like Brooklyn or Wicked, which has some insane (and probably unhealthy) vocal demands and not so many demands acting-wise, it makes perfect sense that ladies with huge voices and less-than-magnificent acting ability got cast. But I remember in, say, the recent British R&H revivals, acting definitely seemed to get valued over singing, to the point where some people were really complaining about the lead singing voices. Can't please everyone, I guess.

I like how in every thread, Idina Menzel and Kristen Chenoweth's names find their way into it, whether it makes sense or not. It's pitiful.

And secondly, although you may think you sing better than him, I know many people that think they sing amaingly well and it isn't until they get to college and try to audition for actual programs they realize that they suck. i'm not saying this is you, but make sure you KNOW you have talent.

There is no such thing as having a role stolen from you. The director can cast whoever they want, for whatever reason they want. It's generally not in their best interest to cast someone horribly unqualified (though it does happen) so I seriously doubt in most cases that the director is doing it just to upset you.

Regardless of the actual facts of the situation, it's bad form all around to make a habit of expressing how royally screwed you believe you've been from show to show. I completely believe you, and if I were a director/ casting agent I might even still believe you. But that wouldn't matter because no one wants to cast somebody who openly dwells on getting the short end of the stick.

Of course actors are people too, but the problem with a lot of actors is that they are the KIND of people who will make empty proclamations such as "ACTORS ARE PEOPLE. PEOPLE ARE HUMANS!!!! Understand it!" I won't try and figure out what you're trying to say, but I'm sure your loud actor-y voice sounds excellent saying it.

Hey man, if you're gonna be upset, be upset. Theatre can be a very upsetting thing to be involved in, but you can't rely on it to just get easier because you feel you've paid your dues. There are plenty of us here who have been rejected and screwed over for parts we've "deserved" dozens of times year after year, so don't say no one understands what it's like. Just know that there's no way any of us could still enjoy theatre if we insisted on writing an opera for our tragic lives every time we're turned down. You say you don't give a damn if anyone sides with you or feels sorry for you, well then maybe what you need at times like this is a diary, not a public discussion forum. And if you feel the need to count up the numbers and size of the roles you've had, factoring in whether or not you were listed in the program, it might be time to stop and consider whether you're doing this because you enjoy the experience, or because you enjoy the status of getting a "good role".

You just don't know how many ways I want to tell you to get over yourself. If you want any kind of future in this business, you'd better learn that fast.

And if you crash and burn, please don't become a theater critic.

yeah, hun, once again it's probably casting based on look. that, or this actor is sleepin' w/somebody.

it'll pass. just do your role and do your best. let this other actor suck. the audience will see it.

Honey, I just lost out on a role to the MD's daughter! I outsang her completely, she even used the book and sang the alto part when we were looking for a sop! She isn't a member of the company and they were claiming that you HAD to do the whole show if you wanted a named part (she isn't in any other numbers or turning up to the other rehearsals, of course).

Did I throw a strop and claim it had been stolen from me? No. I had a bit of a cry when I got home (I'd expected she'd get it since they'd wanted her from the beginning - I was just pissed off they'd wasted my time by still holding auditions). Yes I moaned that it was unfair that they hadn't been straight with me, but I sure as hell didn't play the Prima Donna and count up every time I've been unfairly passed over for a role. In fact I turned round and said "Fine. That's the way it is. I'm gonna turn up to every concert & show them exactly what I can do. I'm gonna be the best damn singer in the chorus! I may not be a star but you can bet I'm gonna shine!"

Next year I'll be auditioning for Phoebe for Yeoman of the Guard. I'll probably lose out to one of the older women who's used to getting leads. She's about 30 years too old but won't go for Dame Carruthers cos it's too small & she doesn't want to think she's old. Why will I lose out? Cos she considers herself a lead & is NOT a happy bunny when passed over.

It's the way theatre (even amateur theatre) is. Talent usually comes a way down the list of priorities for casting directors.

You obviously enjoy all the attention lavished on you here because it's obvious no director wants to cast such a self absorbed, little snot like you in their show.

Please do us a favor and go back to your "professional" world of P.S. 104 in the Bronx.

Maybe one day you'll learn what it means to be a "professional". But I doubt it.
