I wonder who will be in the cast. It'd be great if the Broadway cast got to go on tour.

Kerry Butler has a brand new baby at home. I doubt she would leave to go on tour right now.

And the rest of the cast members have solid careers on Broadway. Why would they settle for less pay on tour and have to live out of hotels when they can be at home performing in an original production on Broadway?

Nice "subtle" hint, Neddy re: XANADU Tour will start in San Diego's La Jolla on Nov.11- Dec.21..
WannaBe, Judy Kaye--a Tony winning actress (there's none in the XANADU cast)--didn't have a problem touring with SWEENEY.
The whole cast of CAROLINE, OR CHANGE toured with the show to selected cities.
Georgia Engel toured with DROWSY.
I also believe (though I may be wrong) that the cast of TWELVE ANGRY MEN toured with the show as well.
There's nothing de-meaning about touring the world with a show that you love being a part of.

Yes, exactly. As someone who's worked on Broadway myself, I have to say I prefer touring. If it's a top tier production contract, they'll make the same salary as Broadway. If its a lead, they can negotiate their salary up. Plus they get per deum. And if the run is long enough in a city, they might get a corporate housing/apartment option.

Touring's a lot of fun, really. And there are some performers, regardless of establishment on Broadway, who still like to tour.

Ray, the performers you cited are not young up-and-comers.

The only ones I could imagine touring with XANADU would be Jackie, Mary, or Tony.

But again, they all have lives and steady careers here in NY.

For a young up-and-comer, going from Broadway to a touring production is a step backward.

I didn't say it was demeaning, but it is less pay than Broadway, and you're living out of hotels.

Edit: tourboi, something tells me the XANADU tour isn't going to have extra cash to spend on luxuries. Expect a mostly new cast who will be paid minimum.

It is very possible that one ORIGINAL (key word here) cast member from the Broadway production might be playing one of the leads.

Emo_Geek- I'm not sure but I will find that out for you tomorrow or Friday.

neddy, it's no secret that the offer is out for Carpinello to tour with the show, so I don't know why you're acting all silly.

Not always a decrease in salary, as I said. Leads can negotiate, and a top tier production contract Eq tour pays minimums like Broadway, plus per deum.

And you're not always in a hotel. Sometimes you're in corporate housing apartments.

The Equity minimum for tours is less than Equity minimum for Broadway.

WannaBe, I think Cheyenne and Kerry definitely wouldn't tour because they are pursuing different career/personal opportunities that would keep them from it.
However, for actors like Curtis Holbrook, touring with the show doesn't seem an outrageous idea.
Remember Katie Clarke? She toured with LIGHT IN THE PIAZZA and now she is touring with WICKED. She made her Broadway debut in PIAZZA and I don't think touring is a step backwards for her.
Now if this were the PHANTOM tour or the LION KING tour we're talking about, I'd be 100% on your side. But touring on the first national tour of the hit show you opened on Broadway doesn't seem a step backwards to me.
