Great news!
Any buzz on who will be cast as Caractacus Potts?

I don't think I can take any more excitement right now. Michael Ball in May, Le Miz in March, Mr. Crawford in the fall (maybe--got my fingers crossed on that one)--possible trip to NYC.
Next year? Hummm. Depends on the casting.

D,
I thought of you when all these pieces of news were suspiciously ( LOL) being announced practically in the same breadth!
I also want to see WIW ( maybe next year before its full year in London) and then followed by a reprise of CHITTY on Broadway ![]()

Finally
Other than the Ford Center, as mentioned in the article, what theatres could house it? It would have to be a big theatre, along the lines of the Broadway or the Gershwin.
You would have to tie me down to get me to watch that movie. Maybe the show will be good.
I loved that movie as a child. I know Nothing about the show, but I can't wait to see it!
woo! i too wanna see WIW and CCBB!!! they sound cool...but if they use the gershwin where would wicked go?

The only thing worth seeing in CCBB is the car - the rest in the UK is pantomime. I suppose they will re-direct it for the US.

Based on the Playbill.com article on the subject, it looks like the show is being redirected towards the American market --

But I hope they retain some of the essential Britishness ( not the panto element) of the show which has made it a delight.
This is what the article partly says --
"No casting is yet in place, but Rose disclosed that “some quite large structural changes with some new material geared to the American market specifically” had been rehearsed by the new cast, and would be put in place in London. It is this new version of the show which will reach New York"

I'm an American and I saw the show numerous times in London in the last year. I had no problems understanding the British humor and enjoyed the audience interaction. The only change I could think of would be to change the name of the turkey farmer character to one Americans will recognize.
I hope this "re-direction" doesn't take it too far from the original. The stage show is pretty faithful to the film, which Americans are familiar with, so it's not like the musical in its present version would be totally unfamiliar to American audiences.
Depending on the fates of 42nd Street and Fiddler, the show would probably work well in the Ford or Minskoff. Possibly the Marquis, but I doubt if Millie will close that soon.

Chitty would HAVE to fly at the Ford Center, Minskoff, or the Broadway..

This was not a good movie. It clunked. Charming as white bread, but not half as interesting. A new script and new score would be needed.
Why does anyone think this will be a good stage musical or even a proftable one? I know the West End history, but the tastes are drastically different. It may run but will it make money?
This is the kind of show I'd never put money near much less into.
As for the right house, think Ford or Marquis. Neither 42nd Street nor Millie are doing that well, and either or both could well be gone by or before New Years.

ah, but the longest running shows in Broadway history HAVE been the British mega-musical... even though certain ones were rather weak, it ran and ran and ran
PLEASE NO MICHAEL BALL!!!!
