Variety reports this morning that Young Frankenstein took a estimated $1.85 million that breaks the record held by Wicked over the Christmas period in 2006.
That is a stunning number, even moreso that there is a strike going on!
Mary Poppins had a $1.35 million dollar week.

Well, when they're charging $450, how hard can it be?

How interesting that Brooks is NOW releasing his grosses. I'd love to know what the figures were before the strike, back when he was keeping that info. close to the vest.

so when he's like the ONLY show still open he can brag?
Mel Brooks is getting annoying

They're not releasing the grosses.
These are estimates made by Variety.
Can none of you read?
"While producers of the Mel Brooks spoof musical are not releasing figures, sources peg the show's grosses for the week ending Nov. 25 north of $1.85 million."
Brooks and co did not release the information, if you read the story you would know where it came from!
Also his is not the only show with over priced seats $350 for JB, but you don't see that sort of posts when they make over a million a week.
I mean really this bashing of Brooks is getting sad.
Boo-ya! Guess it's not closing anytime soon! If people are willing to pay 450 a seat, that's their choice.
Yes, it is getting sad. Like it or not, like him or not, "The Producers" probably brought many, many millions of new investment dollars into Broadway, the benefits of which we have all derived for a decade now.
Whatever you say about Mel Brooks probably won't hurt him because it's good to be king.

Why would it be more impressive considering there's a strike? The strike means there's less competition out there for the shows that are performing. There's no Wicked, Jersey Boys, Lion King, etc so the big new musical has the stage to itself for the most part.

That's only the PREMIUM seats. There are like probably 30 450 dollar seats, everywhere else in the orchestra is 120.
I have to agree with rosscoe(au) that all of this bashing of Mel Brooks is getting really sad and old. It's like beating a dead horse, you keep inflicting pain to it, hoping it'll feel some pain, but it's dead. The Brooks bashing is just sad now.
Yeah, this "$450 every seat" rumor is long, tired, and untrue. These are orchestra seats that usually open up at a regular or discounted price the day of the show.
Yay Young Frank!
When almost every other Broadway show was closed, you managed to sell your seats! Well done!

150 orchestra seats at each show are priced at the $450 premium rates, and 100 orchestra seats at each show are at the $375 premium rates, and as the show date approaches, unbought seats are released on a tier at the $120 price.
The rest of the orchestra seats are either house seats (I believe the total pull for each show is 15 pairs), AmEx seats, lottery tickets, or regular $120.
the show has no following except for the MEL freaks ...and that source of ticket buying should be over by Feb.
by the time the Tony noms come out it will be just another show on broadway

I guess I'm beating a dead horse here, but for all the broohaha, the fact that YF is just a mediocre -- not terrible -- show ever enter into anyone's consideration? I saw it ONCE and that's enough for a lifetime for me.
Well Brooks did not release the grosses...it is an "estimate".

Okay, my apologies. Brooks didn't release his grosses; he's consistent. I misread it because--well, honestly, I'm not a fan of his, so I merely skimmed the article.
Mea culpa.

YF isn't a great show, it's not even a very very good show. It's a very tired formula and I was feeling almost offended, especially my intelligence.
I adore the movie, but this show was made for the lowest common denom.
Can I get the naysayers to treat for dinner at the show's fifth anniversary? This thing is critic and Broadwayworld proof.
I personally enjoyed it very much and perhaps would see it again in the future but regardless, the fact that theres a strike going on in no way makes the grosses MORE impressive.

EDIT: Never mind. It's not worth it. I'll just point out that I never commented on the quality of the show; I merely said that I had misread the article and therefore misunderstood the information. I apologized for that.
Perhaps the "you people" wasn't directed at me. If it was, I'd ask you to reread my post.

Great point allofmylife. Thos reviews, and I know many disagree, were backlash from Brook's ego. His work here is top notch, no matter who he is. The lyrics are twice as clever as THe Producers. Most of those who badmouth the show haven't even seen it.
Tired formula? Name 10 comedic musicals about Transylvania.
I thought so...
YF gets everything right that Spamalot got wrong. It manages to be its own show while keeping the memorable lines intact. It is a wonderful show with the best cast on Broadway.
