Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!

I love her performances..she's a great performer and could be a legendary one.
But this whole missing show thing is getting out of hand. I had some out of town friends who went to "WT" Friday and..suprise..she's not in.
Anyone know what the cause this time is? As much as the industry respects her as a performer, this has got to be hurting her career.
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#1
Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:06pmI think her future career will depend on how many people actually turn their tickets back when she's out. If WT isn't losing large amounts of money, it may not make a difference to future producers.

Well..WT seems to be loosing large amounts of money each week.
And now the tour is cancelled.
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#3
Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:09pmBut is that people turning back tickets because she's out? Or just lack of interest in the show? One will affect her future jobs, one will not.

It is a shame.
It is a great production of a fantastic (if dated) show.
The opposite of creation isn't war, it's stagnation.

The tour isn't canceled. Certain cities has to cancel it as the tour's schedule changed.
And FYI--few people ask for refunds when she is out.
I'm so glad the likely suspects are in this thread for some good ol nastiness.

Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:11pmI think Donna Murphy is great, but I really didn't like this show.
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#7
Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:12pmjrb, I don't get it. This is just a discussion. What do you think is nasty about it at this point?
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#8
Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:13pmThe topic comes up SO much and gets rather nasty each time.

Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:14pmAccording to the stage manager, Donna was on vacation last week and she will be back this week. Jennifer was on vacation 2 weeks ago. Apparently, their contract allows them to take a week off in the summer... I very much enjoyed Donna's performance in Wonderful Town. I wonder why some people dislike her. I am new to this.
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#10
Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:15pmAs I recall, Equity production contracts allow for a week's vacation every six months.

Thanks Rat..you're right. jrb always needs to turn a thread nasty. A shame.
And please inform me jrb how you know "few" people have turned in tickets for refunds? Do you work the box office? Do you work front of house?
Ahh..yes...the good old "I have a friend" line.
For your info...three of my friends last Friday asked for refunds. Also, when I tried to go a few months ago, a coiple in my party only wanted to see Donna so they asked for a refund eventhough the box office initally refused and up a fight.
Is that "few" enough for you jrb?

Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:18pmMr. Tuttle (who only posts to be nasty), I do, in fact, work front of house on the show. And, I would def call your numbers there "a few".

I would like to actually add something on topic (thanks JRB and Mr. G for all your help).
I saw Donna a couple of months ago and she was AWSOME! I know she has been sick and nobody likes it when a star doesn't show up.
But she can't help it. She's human. I'm sure we'll see her again.
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#14
Posted: 7/25/04 at 8:58pmNot to offend her fans, but that woman just irks me for some reason. Plus, the facial expressions she made during the Tony's when they were announcing her name, AGHH! But like I said, I don't mean to be offensive.

I'll agree. I thought the facial expressions during the Tony number were weird. Someone said she does that during the show but I didn't see those faces at my performance.
I also thought the Tony number sucked.
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#16
Posted: 7/25/04 at 9:21pmYeah, that number was really bad. I daresay the worst of the evening. I kept cringing for them. Could they not have picked a better number to perform out of context?

BlueWizard, I feel compelled to disagree with you by stating that Tony Bennet had to be the worst performance of the evening
Still ruv u!
re: Yes.. Donna Murphy Again!#18
Posted: 7/25/04 at 9:23pmNot to mention the first few seconds of the performance were inaudible b/c the guy's mic wasn't turned on.

LOL, I actually liked Tony Bennett's performance, but I just remembered Mary J. Blige's awful performance.
I do give her props for helping to support Broadway, though.

i have to agree with zoom, what was with the facial expressions?
When she supposedly blew that horrible kiss towards Rob Marshall, what was with that? it just made me want to turn away. uhhh..

Yeah..what was with those facial expressions during the Tony number? Maybe she was trying to stare down Tonya! lol
And thanks to those who actually have an intelligent thought to stay on this matter. That's what this board is for!

Donna was on vacation last week..well until Thursday...and then due to rain delays, could not make it back in time for friday night's show. She deserves a vacation just like the rest of them....being out for sickness or injury isn't really a vacation.
As for the Tony performance..I agree it wasn't the best..I adore Swing in the show but leaving certain lyrics out of the song made it strange. My parents weren't totally impressed from the Tonys..but once they saw the show, they loved it and Donna!
