I went to D.C yesterday hoping to get cancelation tickets to MAME and of course they were all sold out. There was a man behinde me who asked if I wanted to buy tickets and I said I was trying but...and right then the box office woman started screaming and told me not to buy them and blah blah blah...
He didn't look like someone who was scalping, just someone who had something come up last minuet and needed to ditch tickets.I was asking an usher to explain that he could donate them back to the the theater when my mother came up behinde and said the man had just handed her the tickets and walked off.
Isn't that something? They were great seats and the show was wonderful.

That happened to me when I went to see Larry Kert in "La Cage Aux Folles" in San Jose. I was waiting in a long line for tickets and the person in front of me was trying to return a ticket. I guess she didn't want to wait in the line and she turned around and handed it to me at no charge. There are some nice folks out there.
The exact, same thing happened to me when I stood in line at San Jose to buy tickets to "Little Shop" in 1992.
A woman had 2 Orchestra seats for that day's performance, couldn't sell them, and she gave them to me and my friend. Couldn't believe it! That was so nice!
That is awesome! I would love to get free tickets to a show, especially mame!
The opposite happened to me the first week of previews for Drowsy in April. I had three tickets but my girlfriend was sick, so she and her mom who was visiting from New Mexico didn't make the trip in from Long Island where I live. I was trying to see if I could exchange them for a later date and I was explaining the situation to the box office attendant when a tourist from LA and her daughter from North Carolina offered to buy two of the tickets. So I ended up seeing Drowsy with two tourists and not losing any money.
