Only this one actually has good singing voices and great harmonies. But the choreography (Yes, choreography). Can you say awkward?

Posted: 5/24/06 at 10:54pmThey sounded really really good! But was that some kind of interpretive dance?
re: Yet another High School Choir/Wicked Video#2
Posted: 5/24/06 at 11:01pmyeah that was kinda gay...and I'm gay. The choral arrangement wasn't that great and it's a song that really doesn't need to be arranged for show choir.

Wasn't this posted in the other thread?
At any rate, who knew Debbie Allen was choreographing show choirs now?

Let me guess, rich suburban school?
re: Yet another High School Choir/Wicked Video#8
Posted: 5/25/06 at 12:24amthey sounded really good but that choreography all over the place very distracting.

Definitely some talented singers...
But that choreography. It was like "The Rose" scene in NAPOLEON DYNAMITE. Totally laughable. It was like synchronized swimming...but without water.
Hated the soloist. Pretty when she was slow and quiet, but that "belt" at the end...off-key and horrendous.
For amateurs, not a bad job. Nice to see some passion behind the arts in schools.

Posted: 5/25/06 at 2:39amI know this choir fairly well. It's Hart High School in Newhall, CA. They did this song in 2004, just after the show opened on Broadway. They were the first show choir to touch anything Wicked, and blew many people away with it. The video definitely does not do them justice (I saw them perform it live close to 10 times). Two students did the choreography and it was arranged by the choir's accompianist (Steven Ladd Jones). Not Broadway worthy, but definitely a great show choir number when it's performed in a competition setting (BTW, this was at a concert, not a competition).

Show choir is a perversion. That said, the choreography was VERY well executed... but rather spastic in its concept.

It says that it is Hart High. I looked it up and it is in Santa Clarita Valley, CA.
...if anyone cares.

That rendition actually made me appreciate the song for once. And I didn't find the choreography distracting at all. The only thing I didn't like was the soloist's off key ending, otherwise, it was very entertaining.
Gee, in my day - we just stood there and sang. I like the idea of choreography, especially when the students have the ability to pull it off, and only if it doesn't detract from the song.

Posted: 5/25/06 at 10:41amKeep in mind show choir choreography is not meant for the theatrical stage. It is a different discipline entirely.

it's Hart High School? Cool, that district a major account of mine.......
one of the few schools left in the state allowed to keep the mascot "Indians".....

I would have loved to have had a program like that in highschool... I'm guessing those kids had fun and were actually pleasant to watch on top of that...
The best thing our choir did were a bunch of songs from Sister Act, they actually filmed us for television, I never got the chance to see it though. It's probably good (looking at some of the awful videos), because I still remember us being absolutely fabulous! And I'd like to keep it that way.

Posted: 5/25/06 at 12:25pmThis choreography is what makes Musical Theatre so bad. JAZZ HANDS!!!!
re: Yet another High School Choir/Wicked Video#22
Posted: 5/25/06 at 1:19pmMy show choir was so spastic that half of us could not even master the jazz hands. Kudos to the Wicked high school- they put my old high to shame.
