You Can't Stop The Beat, but you can slow it down...

Just back from the final tour dress.

Let me first say -- the girl playing Tracy is super good. Better than Marissa, if you ask me.

I wish Bruce Vilanch had faired that well. And, honestly, without Harvey (or at least without someone better than Bruce) the show doesn't have that same spark.

HOWEVER I think they will still get good reviews on the road. Only people who have seen it on Broadway will be critical...

I can't wait for the tour. I will have to travel 4 hours away to see it, but thats ok. This sounds like a Christmas present....how perfect, the show is in Decemeber! Can't wait to see Carly!

having seen one of the run-thru's I understand how Bruce might seem to not have a "sparkle" to his Edna, but I honestly think he will make it his own, and as someone who is new to musical performing he is in fine shape at the moment.What I was most excited about was the rest of the company,and Carly is so perfect in that role. I never fully warmed up to MJW as Tracey, there was always that "I'm giving a great big musical theater performance in a great big musical" energy to her, but Carly finds all the joy and humor, PLUS a sweetness that was lacking.And speaking of the Broadway company, it's never been better, the new Penny, Jennifer Gambastese is giving what I believe to be the best performance on The Great White Way at the moment. She is such an original, not stealing anything from Butler's template, yet fitting in with both the company and the show spot on..plus one of the best comic performers I've seen, and so young! And of course Adam Fleming makes me light-headed, I swear he was makin' eyes at me last time I saw it, from second row center!

Jennifer Gambastese was not a "wonder" the night I saw her...

the thing I loved was when Kerry does her bit of "You can't stop the beat"..

It used to raise the vocal heat of that number by a great amount...

This girl did'nt come close vocally and her comic timing was just plain off...

She definently deserves some praise for her work!

I love close to nyc and would love to see both, haven't seen the Broadway show. I don't see that many shows, don't have enough money OR a way to get me there

Having seen both Kerry and Jennifer play the role several times I see a difference, of course any who plays Penny will have to follow the original design of the character and since Kerry created it there will always be a lil' bit of her in future casts. And Jennifer has grown in the role and is working hard to "make it her own"...the biggest change for me is that she plays her a bit more demented, while Butler was baby dollish and ready to burst, which worked perfect for her. It's interesting that Bruce is getting such luke-warm buzz, I liked him.

Very true Jon, and in Les Miz they were ORDERED to sound like the OBC recording...honest! At least they let the Phantom's find their own way...somethings that's not a grea thing..)see Hugh Panaro regarding that statement....

I'm considering getting tickets for my Mom and to go home to Boston for a weekend to see it with her. She hasn't see the one on Broadway... think it'll be worth it?
