Question...
Does anyone know what girls are singing what part on You Could Drive A Person Crazy from the Company (1995 revival?)
I know Donna sang the high A's and the upper harmonies on the original. But I'm not sure if Charlotte did the same as Kathy. I can't tell if it's Charlotte or Jane on the high A's. Anyone know for sure? I'm pretty sure LaChanze does the low harmony, right?
So anyone know for sure, which girl is on each part? Charlotte, Jane, LaChanze?

Posted: 3/24/06 at 1:13pmMarta is actually on top, April in the middle, and Kathy on the bottom. If you listen, you can clearly hear the rather piercing voice of Pamela Myers on top.

Donna definitely sang the high A's in the original as Kathy. So wouldn't that mean Donna sang the top part as Kathy?
But I am not asking about the original. I am asking about the revival.

Posted: 3/24/06 at 1:18pmIn the score we got for our show, it was Marta, April, Kathy. And it's definitely that way on the CD. Perhaps they changed it for the revival? Or maybe it was changed later.

No, ljay. She had to jump from the bottom harmony to the A's. You can definitely hear Pamela Myers on top. There's a lot of jumping in the song - April's middle part switches from the low harmony to the melody toward the 3/4 mark of the song.
I'm sorry, I don't know how it was in the revival. I'll have to listen to it.

Well. All I'm really curious about is if Charlotte sang the high A's.
Because those sure aren't easy to sing. Charlotte is such a real triple threat. because she can truely sing.

I don't think Charlotte is much of an actress, but I agree with you that she's a terrific dancer and at least a pleasant singer. To me, a triple threat has to be terrific at all three.
Bebe Neuwirth is a perfect example to me.

Well, Bebe isn't the strongest singer. She's not going to let out high A's anytime soon. Her voice did improve leaps and bounds since her SWEET CHARITY days though.
Charlotte just hasn't had her real time to shine. We will see all she can do this fall in THE CHORUS LINE. I think she will be spectacular.
In my opinion - she is a mix of Donna McKechnie and Gwen Verdon. Charlotte has successfully played 4 Verdon roles - Roxie, Charity, Lola, and Claudine. And this Fall she will have done 2 McKechnie roles.. (Kathy, and Cassie.)

Posted: 3/24/06 at 5:33pmCharlotte is a dancer and an actress before she's a singer. She acted her way through CHICAGO. I mean, she can vocally get by, but if it wasn't for her fantastic acting, all would have been lost - atleast as Roxie.

Posted: 3/24/06 at 5:38pmI saw the production and I'm 99.9% certain that Charlotte is singing the high notes. I sort of recall that it was strange that she was, because she didn't have a strong high register. Also, Jane Krakowski (at that point in her career) had VERY little range. She's worked on it a lot since then. You can hear in the cast recording that her vocals are weak as compared to more recent things. I believe she mentioned in an interview that she did during the run of NINE that she really worked on her voice for the few years leading up to NINE because she never really considered herself much of a singer.

Well for a performer most known as a dance, to be letting out high A's. I think that's pretty impressive, granted that Charlotte was the one singing the high A's. Which it seems pretty certain now she was the one.
Sondheim said it about Donna on the making of the cast album DVD, that it's not easy to sing those high A's - like Donna had to.
But Roxie really isn't the best role to judge her vocal talent by. Roxie's song were written for a very ill-voiced Verdon.
And, yes. I too have noticed that Jane's voice has improved a lot!
Hopefully we'll get a better look at Charlotte the all around triple threat - with A CHORUS LINE. MUSIC AND THE MIRROR should show off her vocal talent better than any Roxie sng.

Posted: 3/24/06 at 6:42pmWell, the good thing about those A's is that you can just sort of pop them out - it's not like they have to sound pretty or be held for a long amount of time. They're very quick, so I think that makes them a little easier. The hard part is then plunging back down to the bottom harmony after singing them.
