According to Riedel, this show will probably close early next year. I don't have the link to the article I read the other day, but in it he claims that Spiderman producers have already been in the Hilton theatre in order to plan their scenery, etc. Does that really mean closing or possibly moving Young Frankenstein to a smaller theatre??

It means closing.

That show has no business being on Broadway any more. It's run its course.

Oh the sweet irony of this...

I am so saddened by the lack of creativity in the entertainment world. What are they teaching these theatre majors in college? How to copy and original idea and then remake it? Not to mention, Spiderman, Shrek, Mary Poppins, Lion King, Little Mermaid..Plus the hawking of toys in the theatre aisles at intermission..Why don't we all go to Disneyworld instead and call it a day??

I second you, mc1227, and quote my hero, [tos] :

Blank Paper- But, more recently, musicals have been based on movies like My Favorite Year, Footloose, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Big, Saturday Night Fever, the Wedding Singer, the Full Monty, the Producers… (inhales) Thoroughly Modern Millie, Hairspray, Beauty and the Beast, Billy Elliot, Spamalot…

JEFF-Wow! So movies make good musicals?

BLANK PAPER- Well they make musicals.

Some of those shows were pretty good musicals. Personally, I loved The Producers and of course, DRS and Hairspray. I know in the past especially, plays and musicals were based mostly on books. Now the movies have replaced the books, so I suppose its a natural progression.

But I long for a musical that is not based on pop culture, juke box, that is well written in music, lyrics and book. Guess I'm getting old. The kiddie land shows are a whole other topic for me and it's too exhausting..
