Young Frankenstein last night

With all due respect to the usher, we are in Broadway's slow season and this is a huge theater. Nevertheless, if the grosses being published by Variety can be trusted, the show is still clearing over $1 million each week. Clearly, this isn't going to be another Jersey Boys or Phantom, but I think that during peak season tourists will see Young Frankenstein on the board, and their familiarity with the source material and Mel Brooks is what will sell seats. Tourists likely don't know Roger Bart or Sutton Foster -- Megan is probably the most well known name on the marquee. The show certainly could be improved with only modest effort but, as it stands now, a friend tells me that her busload of synagogue friends from Philadelphia loved it and laughed the whole way home repeating lines and songs.
