This may be a stupid question, but do you think Sheryl Lee Ralph could pull off Desiree?

Desiree - Annette Benning or Helen McCrory. Even though she's not a star, McCrory would be phenomenal. I saw her in Twelfth Night and Uncle Vanya, and she is definitely on my top 5 of favorite female on stage performances.

Fredrik - I saw Jeremy Irons at City Opera, and he was fantastic. His singing was a bit shoddy, but overall, I think he pulled it off since his acting was so strong. I would also love to see Victor Garber take a shot at this role. I also saw someone mention Boyd Gaines, which sounds like an inspired choice.

Madame Armfeldt - Mary Louise Wilson is an obvious choice and a good one. But I think Estelle Parsons (if she is still acting) would bring some different colors to this role.

Carl-Magnus - Mark Kudisch was great at City Opera. I would love to see him in a repeat performance.

Charlotte - Jan Maxwell is so perfect for this role.

Henrik - Manoel Felciano (I also think he can actually play the cello).

Anne - Katie Clarke would act this role well. I don't know if her vocals would be the strongest, but she would be at the top of the list to call in for an audition. I also liked Sara Jean Ford's voice on the new Fantasticks recording. She might be good too.

Petra - Tina Maddigan or Sarah Uriarte Berry

Phylicia Rashad would make a great Mme. Armfeldt in a few years.

Juliette Binoche is my vote for Desiree

I think Donna Murphy would be the best fit for Desiree, she would be stunning.

I do think Glenn Close would also be good, but last I heard she was DEFINITELY not doing it.
