NIGHT MUSIC needs to be revived! Please, someone get this amazing show revived. What would be your perfect revival cast for the show?
This would be mine

Desiree - Brooke Shields. I'm tired of all these 60 year old Desirees. Desiree should be no older than early 50's.

Madame Armfeldt - Angela Lansbury or Mary Louise Wilson. I think both would be amazing in this role.

Fredrik Egerman - Gregg Edelman

Ann Egerman - Erin Davie and if Erin doesn't have the range - I'd definitely want Jennifer Hope Wills.

Count Carl-Magnus - Michael Cerveris. He's played the role before, and I'd love to see his take on it.

Countess Charlotte - Donna Murphy or Marin Mazzie


And I wouldn't mind seeing new-comers for Petra, Henrik (with a legit voice please), and Fredrika.

What would be your dream cast? I'd kill to see the cast I listed.

Henrik should have an operatically trained voice. It's dreadful when he doesn't. Like in the movie - the Henrik sings everything an octave down - and his voice sounds completely untrained.

I believe Cavenaugh has sung Henrik before. I agree. He'd be a great pick. AC126748's choices are actually quite similar to mine, with the exception of Mme. Armfeldt, who I feel should be played by Angela Lansbury. I'd love to see Victoria Clark as Desiree. (I'd love to see her as anyone really, but Desiree seems a good fit.)

I'm just not totally convinced Clark has the care free sexual attitude Desiree needs.

I was thinking Cavenaugh for Henrik, but I think he looks too old for it now. Would love some unknowns in those roles that will really blow us away.

I would personally kill Michael Arden if he were cast in this...overemoting nusiance that one.

Celia Keenan-Bolger would suck. First off, the character is supposed to be pretty. Secondly, she sucks. Seen Les Mis lately? Yeah.

Yep. I think Jennifer Hope would sound SENSATIONAL as Ann. Perfect voice for it.

And I still would hope the revival would go with a Desiree around the right age. I'm tired of the Granny Desirees.

I'd like Boyd Gaines look for Frederick. But I don't know if he has the voice. He couldn't really handle Bobby in COMPANY. And NIGHT MUSIC is a very legit score.

Anyway I say Gregg Edelman has the perfect voice for the role.

I saw Victor Garber play Frederik a few years ago and he was amazing. (Zoe Caldwell was a good Madame Arnfeldt in that production, but I would prefer a stronger singer.)

I love the idea of Tonya Pinkins in the role of Desiree. Audra McDonald might still be a little young to convey Desiree's world weariness, but I think she would have the right spark. You could definitely understand why Frederik would still have such a strong attraction.

Anne Hathaway might be a good Anne. She can play flighty and did a good job with Sondheim at the Hollywood Bowl tribute I saw a few years ago. I'm not sure if she has enough range, though.

Desiree - Patti Lupone (she was so sexual that I was attracted to her in Sweeney, so I have no doubt she could pull it off)
Charlotte - Donna Murphy

Don't have any other real strong feelings, although I'd hope they'd choose fresh blood for Fredrika, and wouldn't mind it for Henrik and Petra as well.

Celia Keenan-Bolger couldn't sing Anne to save her life. Her head voice is terrible.

I love the idea of Boyd Gaines as Frederik.

Yeah, I love Patti - but her SEND IN CLOWNS is on Youtube - and it's well... not good at all. I'd actually rather see Bernadette in the role over her. But still - both are too old.

Ugh, LuPone would be as miscast in this role as if she were to be cast as Anne. She probably would have made a fantastic Petra way back when (maybe before the show was even written), but the kind of sexuality that Desiree has is not brassy and vulgar like LuPone's Lovett but subtle and yet overpowering. Rule of thumb- any role that can be described with the word "subtle" is probably not right for Ms.LuPone.
One should be so lucky to have Boyd Gaines as Frederick, though in fact he is not the greatest singer in the world (he would be perfect as Ben Stone too but again, "Too Many Mornings" may be a tad too much for him).
Victor Garber has played the role before and from what I hear he has been quite winning. John Dossett also does a great job with "Now" on the Wall to Wall recording.

Frederik- I think Boyd Gaines has the perfect look for Frederik, but as others have said, his voice may not be able to handle the score. I also like the idea of Victor Garber
Count Carl Magnus- Marc Kudisch (I would love to hear him sing "In Praise of Women")
Charlotte- Donna Murphy (I wouldn't mind seeing Donna as Desiree either)
Mme. Armfeldt- Angela Lansbury
Anne- Lauren Molina

I can't think of anyone for Henrik, Petra or Frederika...but I wouldn't mind seeing newcomers in those roles.
