Of the two versions, do you prefer Lippa (off b-way, brian d'arcy james, idina menzel, julia murney, taye diggs) or LaChusia (sp? broadway)
I personally prefer Lippa. I haven't seen it, but from hearing the songs on both CDs, I like this version much better. While I am not in love with every song, the songs I am in love with are some of my favorites ever. Favorites include queenie was blonde, make me happy, look at me now, life of the party, and wild wild party.

Totally agree, I try to compare the two, but I guess that Lippa's hits me better. And Mandy does have a great voice, yet in my book he doesnt compare to Brian.

Posted: 10/17/03 at 2:11pmi've only seen the Lippa staged, so i guess it leads right now. The production wasn't great but the music was very striking. i'd like to see the other in production before deciding, however.

Posted: 10/17/03 at 3:14pmLIPPA! I saw LaChuisa's version on Broadway in April 00 and I saw Lippa's version a few months later and I wasn't a big fan of the LaChuisa verison, I only went to see it for a friend who had a small part. But ahhhh Julia Murney, Brian D'Arcy James, Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs?! "Poor Child" is one of my favorite songs. The only thing I didn't like about Lippa's is Taye Diggs' solo in the second act... "I'll Be Here"... it reminds me of an R&B or Justin Timberlake song, haha, didn't really fit with the rest of the score.

I hate to admit it I was not crazy about the music.
I really hated it. I am not crazy about the score or anything about this show. It was one of my least favorite shows ever.
The only thing worse: Urban Cowboy. Oh and Birdy's Bachlorette party. Pure agony.
