This is the first time I enjoyed a movie of a musical more than the show.
That film was breathtaking.
I now have an appreciation for Weber.

Umm Corine...like I said on the other thread I'm so glad you enjoyed it, but I think the majority of ppl here don't agree. There's many threads on it actually, I believe a phantom movie is craptastic one, and...my holidays would be a bit more pleasant to not hafta read the same bashing of the film I read a year ago.

You're being sarcastic, no?
I rewatched this on Thursday, and remembered how breathtakingly boring it was the first time I saw it and when I saw it live.
No. I loved it. Additionally, I heard the wretched reviews and have never been a Phantom fan, I am very sad I missed it.
I thought it was gorgeous.

The winking smiley is very decieving.
I just loved the costumes, the sets and the Phantom.
Driver was dull and a waste.

You thought she was dull? I thought she stole the show (or movie)

Hated, hated, HATED it! The guy who plays the Phantom was so bad I never even watched the entire film. I literally couldn't sit through it. Why or why didn't they use Michael Crawford??? The only person who I liked in the film was Patrick Wilson. They should have used him as the Phantom if they weren't gonna use Crawford.

I think the only reason why they used Gerry was because he looked good. The only reason.
I liked Patrick... just not his hair.
And Emmy... was OK. I think if we give her a little time, she will become great, but she was a little young for this movie. Her voice is good, but not as good as it should have been, same as the movie. Not as good as it could and should have been.
I loved the guy who played the Phantom. I loved Patrick Wilson in the Full Monty but he was not as good as I would have expected and he looked so frail compared to the Phantom.
Skinny men just don't do it for me.
He looked smaller than Christine.
I really was taken by the guy playing the Phantom.
"I think the only reason why they used Gerry was because he looked good. The only reason. "
And I can't just let things be...
He was exactly what Schumaker wanted for the film--looks yes, but he also had the "rockish" voice that they wanted and pretty much fit exactly what they wanted. At least it's one thing if you're totally against what they envisioned the Phantom being that's one thing, but those exact words that he was chosen just for looks is not true. I personally thought he totally captured the character and all the different emotions to play--romantic/sexuality, almost insane, enraged, lonely, fearful, scarred, etc. I connected w/ the character more than I did at the stage show, and cried pretty hard at the end, never did during the show.

agree about Patrick's wig. He's much sexier without it.
I agree with you. Gerry, exudes sexuality and passion/
I still have goosebumps.

I like he film....dont see what is sooooo bad about it.... i think yall are all just soooooo dramatic that nothing can be good unless it is very ddep and meaningful. Lighten uo and have fun!

i thought gerry was pretty good. No offense to anyone here, but i thought he was much better than crawford. I don't know why people like him so much. his voice is almost as high and as gating as sarah brightman's. I would have been horrified to watch the original show. Emmy Rossum doesn't have the voice for broadway, but she has the looks for the big screen. I didn't understand why she was so bad with her singing since she's been trained at the metroplitan opera since she was like 5. The only reason why i was captivated by this movie (and musical but that quickly passed) is because it's pure eye candy. I'll admit to crying at the end as well, but it wasn't because of the beauty of the music, it was because of gerry's acting.
Now that i look back at the movie i realize how amatuer it is, and how
underwhelming the music is.
The sound guy ruined the film for me. None of the songs sounded like there were coming out of the singers mouths. Truly horrible.

Actually that is true.
It was not a perfect film, but for tv, it was impressive.

YEAH!! I was so dissapointed by that! I was like "wow, minnie driver can really sing" and i thought that she could for a really long time. They should have just got someone who could sing the role.

Forget "deep and meaningful". It wasn't entertaining in any way, except unintentionally. Minnie Driver and Patrick Wilson were the only ones who knew what they were doing. Jennifer Ellis (Meg) had several times more charisma and charm than dishwater-dull Emmy Rossum. The sets and costumes were expensively tasteless. Gerard Butler...eh, enough has been said already.
I liked it too. I liked Gerry's voice, but I loved his looks. He is one gorgeous hunk of man, and he's a great actor.

I think the movie sucked about 100x's more than the broadway show did. It's a piece of crap play and gutwrenchingly bad film.
The movie would at least have camp value if it wasn't also so mind-numbingly boring.
Why do you think it is so boring?
