I think the original "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown" is supposed to have the simple sound. It's like kids just having fun and singing...listen to the original version of "You're a Good Man Charlie Brown." The music is simple and the actors are providing some of the music themselves.
I enjoy both recordings, but I also prefer the revival. I like the way the revival re-did some of the songs. However, I don't think the Lucy is mean enough and her voice seems a bit too annoying. Also, I didn't like the way B.D. Wong chose to play Linus with a lisp.
