hard to pick ONE.......
Simone provided INCREDIBLE vocals, but physically, she didn't embody who I saw Mimi to be.
Shayna Steele has some powerhouse pipes and the girl can move.. I LOVED her Mimi.
Krystal Washington is one helluva dancer, I'll say that.
Antonique Smith had the look the I saw to be Mimi and I liked her voice, though I felt it could be more powerful.
Wish I could have caught Caren Lyn Manuel in the role....

I saw Krystal and didn't like her all that much...
1) I think she must've been sick, because she was really raspy. I personally don't like it when they cast actresses who sound like they have vocal damage. It's painful to listen to, though it does sort of fit the character.
2) She was too tough. I think Mimi is a very vulnerable character at heart...I like to see that.

That I actually saw: Karmine.
Daphne, though, will never fail to be Mimi. Seeing her perform Out Tonight was one of the highlights of my musical theatre fandom.

Posted: 10/30/04 at 6:02pmWell Delphine, you must have seen her early on because the night that I saw her she was God awful. 'Out Tonight' was croaked and she sounded as if she was going to have to leave the show and have someone else take over for her at any minute because she just sounded as if she would have no more voice for the next song. I really like "Rent" but she left me with some bad memories of that show. In other words, when I saw it, SHE SUCKED!
