Annie V,

A quick thread detour to mention my hope that your kids know how lucky they are. Your respect for their maturity and intelligence is heartwarming.

I suspect they will remember this trip for the rest of their lives. I also suspect it will be but one of many moments they cherish with such caring and thoughtful parents.

I hope you find New York a gracious host. We all look forward to hearing your thoughts on the plays.

I salute you,
Rumpelstilskin

P.S. If you have a spare seat at the table, please consider adopting me. I promise to clean my room. Sometimes.

Annie, I think the 'stage door experience' at "How to Succeed..." might be a bit too much. We saw the show last week, and there were people leaving before the show was even over so they could get to the barricade. And I got shoved around in the lobby by a couple of teen girls trying to run to the barricade (though I could promise you that they wouldn't have made it up there without a good bit more shoving). It was far too insane for my taste, so we left without even attempting to stage door.

Anything Goes is awesome, and probably available, and there's not a bad seat in the very small house.
Two boys, 10 and 13, eh? Billy Elliot would be a natural. I've seen the show in London, NY, and the national tour in Tempe, AZ. They were all excellent! I think there's a current production going on in Toronto. Highly recommened.

Hi, Annie! Sorry for the delayed response. I'll be seeing RENT on Sunday, August 14th, matinee! Glad you went with the row G seats. I hope the show is great! (It's my favorite. I've seen it 5 times on Broadway and 5 times at local productions)

As far as the stage door experience, yes, that's exactly what I mean. Every theatre has a stage door and after the shows, some of the actors come out to sign autographs, take pictures with fans, etc. I almost always do that after every show I see. However, as exciting as I'm sure it would be for your kids to stage door for Daniel Radcliffe, it truly is a mob scene. It's one I'd avoid in all honesty. There are at least 100 people if you count how many are standing across the street, plus at the two sides of the baricade. Unless you get right up close (which would mean leaving the show early, and still, that's not guaranteed), you will hardly get to even see him. I'd avoid it, but I'd certainly stage door for your other shows. Most stage doors are right outside the theatre (they usually read "Stage Door" right above the door), but some are sneaky and are around the corner or down the block. Just ask a worker or usher if you aren't sure!

Annie....if you're still looking for that third show to see, I just saw Sister Act last week and ended up liking it far more then I expected. The most fun I've had at a show in a long, long time. Also, I've seen Marry Poppins and was surprised how good it was. Disney spared no expense in producing this musical. Also, Addams Family is a hoot regardless what the reviewers said. I saw it right after if opened up and am planning on seeing it again soon to see Brooke Shields as Morticia. Can't wait to see what she does with the role. Have a great visit to the city.....

I'll put in my two cents and suggest

Billy Elliot- there's something absolutely incredibly moving about a 13 year old leading an entire show the music and choreography entertaining.

Mary Poppins- The show is terrific and you can't beat the magic and there's nothing better than a sherman brothers score along with fabulous new material from stiles and drewe.

that being said Billy Elliot and Poppins are two of the best Live theatrical shows that I have experienced. I highly reccomend both
