Re: ANNIE - 50th Anniversary Broadway revival (Fall, 2027)

Sep 17, 2026 — 7:51:51 AM

There have been countless variations on the Hannigan theme over the years, but none have compared to Dorothy Louden’s take in the original cast. She had that certain something; that combination of sexy, fun, and sinister that was uniquely her own. A couple of actors I’d like to see give it a try . . . (this one is serious) Megan Hilty and (because I want to suggest her for everything even if entirely inappropriate for the role) Jackie Hoffman.

GOOD NIGHT AND GOOD LUCK To Air On CNN 6/7

Jun 7, 2025 — 9:20:51 PM

I didn't see the production on Broadway and doubt I would have had a chance to do so, so this was really a gift. I think watching this it in the comfort of my own couch on my own TV with clear sound (didn't miss a word) helped disguise any flaws the production may have. And you can't beat the cost of the ticket! So appreciated the opportunity to experience this.

Out of respect for the actors we waited until intermission to leave.

Broadway Jeopardy series on YouTube

Dec 12, 2024 — 5:15:58 PM

I'm a big fan of Marc Bonanni (Broadway by Ghostlight) and his Broadway Jeopardy series on YouTube. For anyone unfamiliar with it, Marc has a game grid in the standard Jeopardy style with a new set of categories each week and clues in increasing levels of difficulty. It's fun to yell out the answers (actually questions) and feel like I know something when I get it right, and Marc embellishes the reveals with Broadway trivia that I always find interesting and entertaining. The series isn't get...

Gavin Creel has passed away

Sep 30, 2024 — 6:17:04 PM

He seemed genuinely happy to be on the stage at every performance I was fortunate to see. There wasn’t a moment he appeared bored or otherwise engaged. I hope he truly felt the joy he brought to the community he so clearly loved.

Universal's WICKED Film - News & Discussion Thread

Jul 17, 2024 — 10:09:22 AM

Kad said: "I still find it odd they’re not clearly marketing this as part one of two."Help me understand your thought process here. To me, there’s no reason to mention it. The built-in mega-audience comprised of those wanting to share the movie with their kids after having first experienced the musical as tweens and Ariana Grande’s seventy gazillion social media followers are going to see the film regardless and likely already know about the two parts, and the rest will either find out shortl...

Shorts in the theater

Jul 10, 2024 — 8:40:54 AM

I think about this thread often because I live in Houston and our real feel summer temperatures hover in the neighborhood of 110. It's hot as hell (and at the moment most of us don't have electricity after the storm, but that's a topic for another thread). People tend to dress more conservatively at the big theaters that support touring shows than they do in New York. That said, there is a sizable contingency, myself included, that wear shorts or whatever else it takes to be comfortable. I li...

Performances at the 2024 Tony Awards

JSquared2 said: "So you're saying that Broadway shows that are performing on the Tonys should bring in ‘ringers’ to deceive the viewers about what they'll actually be seeing in the theater? Should they have Alicia Keys do the HK number?"I know you’re kidding, but there’s certainly precedent to your hypothetical … e.g., Dolly Parton (9 to 5), Elton John (Billy Elliot), Poison (Rock of Ages), Sara Bareilles (Waitress).

Songs from shows that might work in church

SkidRow82 said: "You Walk with Me - The Full Monty"Seconded. The song works on so many different levels. My favorite performance was at a gay wedding. In a church. Surrounded by supportive friends and family. Everyone there felt the song spoke directly to them.

Anyone happen to have an extra single ticket for Merrily next week?

Jun 6, 2024 — 10:33:31 AM

Check the Theatr app early and often every day. I've noticed several last minute Merrily tickets available due to the crazy weather conditions in the south shutting down airports and canceling flights. Theatr app rules stipulate that tickets can be sold for no more than face value (to which they tack on a reasonable fee) so there's the potential to stumble on one at an affordable price.
