Didn't see any mention of this show on the board so I start this thread. It closed yesterday at the Theatre at St. Clement's on West 46th Street after a limited 24-performance run. Jim Brochu wrote and starred in this one-man show about the life and career of Zero Mostel. Mr. Brochu has been doing this piece on and off for about 10 years but this is the first time I caught it. So funny, touching and enlightening about a time long gone by but should never be forgotten. If it ever comes back, try to catch it.
As a bonus to yesterday's wonderful afternoon, there was an announcement as the lights went down that Mr. Brochu, Kurt Peterson, co-producer of ZERO HOUR and original Broadway cast member of FOLLIES and DEAR WORLD, as well as Harold Prince would be doing a talk-back after the show and we were invited to stay. Mr. Prince had just come from a rehearsal of the forthcoming Prince of Broadway at Manhattan Theatre Club. He spoke about many aspects of working as producer with Mr. Mostel in FUNNY THING... and FIDDLER. Fascinating. To see this man in front of you and to think of all the theatre history he represents is mind boggling. He briefly spoke of watching Chuck Cooper rehearsing If I Were a Rich Man that afternoon!
Had a great time.

I saw this last week and thought it was a great evening of theater, he really became the character and it was one of the better solo shows I have seen in a long time. There were many aspects of his life I had no idea about such as the bus accident. The play was strongest for me towards the end when he really went into the gossip surrounding Jerome Robbins, I'm surprised he mentioned The Producers only briefly since that was a major movie for him. I wonder if he will take the show on tour somewhere.

Alfie6: Someone at the Talkback asked Mr. Brochu if he ever planned to do it again. He said that he thought he had kind of hung up his shoes as Zero and then this time and space at Theatre at St. Clement's came up so he did it again. He didn't rule it out!
Glad you enjoyed it.
