Worst casting EVER. I'm really liking the girl that's playing Tracy, but now with this? I'm not sure I even want to attempt to see it now.

I'm confused. It seems most people here are mad that they cast an actor from High School Musical- not that they cast a "bad actor." I actually thought Zac did alot with very little script in HSM. Good actors can make bad film choices. If you don't think Zac is right for the part, that's one thing- but it's not fair to dislike him because you don't like a movie he was in.

Yeah ok he's cute. I'm SO not a fan of High School Musical, but it has been said again and again that not all the vocals of that movie were the actual vocals of the actors "singing". So maybe there's hope.
Anyway, I haven't seen a picture of the new Tracey, so I don't know how young she looks..and I get that they want to go for a young Link..but I mean, for a guy who's what 18, he still looks 13.

On another note. SO HAPPY about Queen Latifah. I love her.

And no. Please please let's not even MENTION the possibility of Meryl Streep doing this movie. Let her do the good films. I can't really judge anything, you're right, but it really looks like this film is going more and more down the drain...

i'm really disappointed with Zac Efron being cast. i sensed a more of a character that had seen it all and yet remained innocent to the possibility of something new.

maybe i projected too much on Link but i don't think Zac has the charisma to play someone who KNOWS he's hot. maybe he'll fool me and act his way out of it. but Zac reminds me too much of Aaron Carter and the ilk.

I don't know what's the mourning about. I wud have loved to see Justin Timberlake as Link, but as some mentioned earlier, if the Tracy is 17, it seems wise to cast something at around the same age!
Zach isnt bad at all, I think he's quite gd... I first noticed him in Summerland and thought he was a pretty gd actor, but didn't know he can sing & dance! I don't think he'll be bad at all! Talk about bad casting for me - John Travolta as Edna - YUCK!

say this movie came out at the earliest possible time, around 2003 ... Perhaps Justin could have played the part.

But even then, he was maturing. He would be a perfect looking Link somewhere around 2000, minus the 'fro.

We already have. Many times. Just because his 2005 voice wasn't suited for the high-pitched pop stylings of 'High School Musical' doesn't mean his 2006 voice isn't suitable for 'Hairspray'. Marc Shaiman (I feel like such a name-dropper, but people tend to listen more than when I just share my personal opinion XD) himself has said that Zac can sing, and sing well. Zac himself was quoted as hoping to "retain [his] vocal dignity" with this role.

I might go back to bashing my head against a wall. At least I feel like I'm getting somewhere when I do that...

I just watched the video of the girl who is going to play Tracey and thought she was adorable. I loved when she almost passed out!

On my opinons on this topic, right now. I'm was happy Zac was chosen for this PARTICULAR role, well, "not happy" would be an understatement, especially in this movie which I had actually been looking forward too,because that means lots of younger kids will come to see Hairspray for Zac and you'll never get a decent seat in the theatre, but we have to consider what the casting people are doing...maybe he'll f*** it up, maybe he won't. I'm giving him and any other actor the benifit of the doubt on this one. Maybe he could actually pull this off and break away from his Disney sucess.

Wait a minute, my name's not 'Alvin'... Someone *else's* life is flashing before my eyes. *What the hell is that about?*

I was flipping through the channels yesterday and saw that High School Musical was on Disney. Curiosity got the better of me, because I had never seen it before, and I wanted to see this id who was going to be Link. After watching a good chunk of it, all I can say is..... **HEADDESK**
