I don't know what his diva-like antics are, but I sympathize with the guy. I can understand that he doesn't want to be typecast. And I CERTAINLY understand not wanting to do a Disney Channel movie again. But honestly, Efron...SPEED RACER??? If Lohan's HERBY FULLY LOADED flick wasn't warning enough...

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

B.S.

I mean sure he wants to get away from Disney, but he was such a sweet heart when I met him. Extremely down to earth. I can't imagine him being a 'diva.'

The whole article sounds like it was put out by Shia LeBeouf's people.

Emile Hirsch has already been cast as Speed Racer. There's a video of him on the site-that-must-not-be-named of his acceptance of the role. It's a little embarassing for Zac to publicize what roles you are auditioning for, then not getting the role (whether his publicists did that or not).

wildcard- it wasnt, it was TMZ who 'heard' he was up for it and made a story on it.

Yeah, I think the article is a little one sided, and I understand not wanting to be known as the High School Musical kid forever. I mean I wouldn't want to touch Haunted High School Musical with a ten foot pole.
But basically I think the article is a bunch of crap.

Anyone who can't put a K or an H at the end of their name clearly has some pretentiousness issues.

Yes, you don't want to be typecast, but then again, you want to have a job. I know a guy who did Disney movies, hit 19 and can't get work.

Know where your bread is buttered.

There are 2,000 more guys who look just like him here in Hollywood.

I get the feeling that the degree of one's diva antics is inversely proportional to their ability.

Hilary Duff did break ties with Disney.
But her new album is very un-Disney like.
Have you seen her new video: "With Love"
very racy for Ms. Lizzie Mcguire.

Not to get too OT, but does anyone actually think Hilary Duff's career would still be going on if she had stuck with Disney and the semi-chunky blonde niche she was filling there? Her movies may not have been big hits (besides maybe Cheaper By The Dozen), but I can't imagine she'd have been paid enough for her Disney Channel show to top them.

I think Zac Efron is doing everyone a great service by trying to stop the High School Musical madness in it's track. We won't hear the end of it if Haunted High School Musical does get released.

Duff is adorable, with her wholesome, likeable image, but she is neither a great singer nor a great actress. I doubt she'd be where she is without Disney to boost her from child actress to teenage icon; the association with Disney was able to gain her the fanbase she needed that would latch on and follow her from the transition out of her awkward Lizzie McGuire phase. I don't think she'd have gotten such a following otherwise.

but he was such a sweet heart when I met him.

I'm not saying Efron is one way or the other (and frankly, I don't really care), but ever hear of put-on public personas? Just because he was nice to you doesn't mean a diva moment is total bs. re: Zac Efron using a life lesson from John Travolta? 'Diva-like' antics m

One of the stars of Disney's High School Musical, playing Link in the Hairspray movie. Typical, average teenybopper.

I hope he really isn't doing this diva-like behavior. I mean, c'mon who the f--k is Zac Effron? he was in one movie that got the tweens all excited, but its not like he's hit stardom. Get over yourself...geesh!

He may have been in HSM, but that wasn't his first job? According to IMDBpro, his earliest gig was in 2002, in a series called Firefly (which I've never heard of).

He then goes on to have other TV spots and movies, a credited spot on "Summerland" and then HSM in 2006.

He may not be a star, but he's a working actor. Give him a break.
