Posted: 10/24/04 at 2:41amHi! I'm in charge of an acting class at my university and am running out of class warmups (approximately 20 students). Anybody have any good, creative ideas? Games that get the blood pumping and the mind focusing and concentrating are always good. Thanks so much (:

This one is good for concentration and focus.
Have the students stand and form a circle.
And make them count to 20or30 consecutively
The catch is: Each student says a number
when they think no one will say that number,
if two or more people say the same number, they start
from 1. (i hope i explained it ok)
Make sure they do not cheat by counting
around the room. This exercise helps students focus
on each other.
Its a cool game, quite challanging.

Try the Zip Zap Zop game
Have everyone get in a circle and one at a time everyone says the alphebet letter by letter (I would say "a" the next person "b") as the person says the letter they point to their right or left and whichever way they point is the way that the action continues. Do this so that the entire alphepbet is said 3-4 times, and see how fast you can get it.

one of our favorites in my group is something we call the song game. we get in a circle and someone starts singing a song. then others jump in with another song that connects in some way. example i could sing on my own and some one could continue with another song from les mis or a different show tune. the game also leads into other genres.
another one is freeze frame. two actors start with a improv situation and move as much as possible. someone else tell them to freeze when they like the position, takes one of the actors' place and starts with a new situation.
