When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

my personal favorite is probably Sweeney Todd, but some other faves are Gypsy, Fiddler on the Roof, Passion, Sunday..., and Finian's Rainbow.

For me it is a tie between Sweeney Todd, Gypsy, and Sunday in the Park With George.

Though it is probably leaning more towards SITPWG :)

Here's a discussion...how do you define the concept of musical theatre

I hear that Patti LuPone lady is pretty good.

and I sobbed during about 3/4 of the Sunday revival. it was breathtakingly beautiful.

musical theatre is a form of telling a story with songs to express what words a lone can't.

I think it was Bebe Neuwirth who discussed the use of songs and dance in theater. When you can't say anything else with just words, you sing, and when you can't say anything more with song, you dance. that's not the exact quote, but it was the general idea.

bebe is so right. there are certain songs that are so amazing at expressing emotion, roses turn for example
