I am thinking of seeing Eden Espinosa in "Wicked" LA this coming March (during my trip to LA )Does anyone knows if the Mezzanine Row D Left as in last seat in Far Left is an obstructed view ? I would hate to pay top price for an obstructed view seats? I know that this theater has more than 1,000 + seats ?? and I am only familiar with the Theater here in NYC.. Pls advise ? Thank you-J*

I've sat around there before and it's not too obstructed. You might miss a tiny bit of action in the back stage-right corner, but nothing really goes on over there anyway. You definitely won't miss any of the main action of the show. The mezz at The Pantages is actually a really great place to sit.
Is there a good seat at the Pantages?
Hahaaha.
Only about 100, I think.
Any news on the start of the LA run?
no news yet....since the first preview isn't until Sat the 10th
The Pantages was built primarily as a movie house - unfortunately, there are lots of seats with less than ideal views. It's also enormous - it seats almost 1,000 more people than the Gershwin Theatre in New York.

my only complaint about the ahmanson is that the seats at the very back of the balcony are EXTREMELY uncomfortable... i hate sitting there mainly for the fact that i'm a big guy and there's absolutely no leg room... even for a child!
WICKED isn't playing the Ahmanson, you old drunk!

Just bring binoculars and a periscope and you'll be fine... j/k. Actually if you're just in the fourth row back in the mezz you probably won't need magnification.
When I saw Wicked back in the day in NY, I sat in the extreme orchestra side in Row H or so (extreme left in Act I, extreme right in Act II) and I still feel like I missed a lot. Like, what the appeal of Wicked is.

The Pantages is HUGH and WIDE .... I can almost promise you that you will feel like you got a "bad" seat if you don't buy the premium seats.
Avoid the sides as much as possible... center in the last row is better that half way down on the sides.
Mezz for the most part is pretty OK.
Good Luck. Enjoy.
i have seen many shows there and found that the best seats are in the orch closer to the stage. I hate the sound system.
Sorry, I thought the previews started last Tuesday.
Is anyone seeing it this weekend?
Get a report posted...are they having the typical lottery?

What about second mezz. level row k seats 111-112 center? Are those any good? I may see the show in July and those were the best I can find at the third price level on ticketmaster.

I wouldn't do those seats if I were you...just not good at all.
I always thought that the Pantages has pretty good seating compared to some. It is really big and wide, but I could see everything and I sat in the back section of the left mezzanine. I saw The Lion King there as well as Wicked, and Dirty Rotten. They are not horrible, it was almost like sitting in the same section at the Gershwin for me.

"I hate the sound system."
I completely second this emotion - this theatre has some of the WORST accoustics I've ever encountered! While you might be able to see things from different locations (albeit, from a great distance,) the wall of noise hitting you will sound like . . . well, a wall of noise. We have access to house seats for this run, which is the only reason we'll go to see it there. If it's at all possible, go for the premium seats.
The Pantages is gorgeous (and recently restored), but too enormous for its own good. The acoustics are crappy, I agree.
Sit close if you can.

Best - it really is gorgeous. As a matter of fact, the best time I've had in there was simply taking a tour of the structure itself - there wasn't even a set on the stage.
DG - I think I will be able to access house seats as well for this run. But, this should be at the Pantages for a very long while. So there is no rush to go. (I heard up to 2 years is planned).
For the original question, if you are going, in addition to what everyone else has said, make sure you do not get seats to the far left or right, as some of the view will be obstructed.

Bump! I just bought a ticket to Pippin at the Pantages Side Orchestra Right Row W, seat 10. Anyone have any issues with this seat in particular or within this area of the theatre?
If you had asked before buying the ticket I would have recommended front mezzanine for this show. I personally don't care to sit on the extreme side but i'm sure you'll be able to see things just fine.

Thanks so much, Popular! I understand the view may be better from the mezz, but I had to be a little more friendly to my wallet. x)
It was indeed built as a movie theater but back than it had vaudeville & live stage shows
Most theaters built back than had great acoustics so this has to be one of those that does not. Very surprised.
I go to the pantages basically every single week. I've sat almost everywhere the only places that I've ever hated sitting were the sides only if your seat is in the very front because you cant see the side of the stage from where your at. But the sides are fine only if your towards the middle or back. The sides in the mezz. don't matter only talking about the orchestra.
