anyone see Ministry of Progress?

Yes, I defintiely think it's worth a look see. Your Auntie Gladys ventured over to that theatre in that hotel on Jane Street on the West Village waterfront, awash in nostalgia for the good old days when a girl could--but that's another story--Yeah, it's good. The cast is fascinating to look at, all really interesting character types who don't look at all like your typically glossy musical people, made up to look scruffy, and boy can they sing! The songs, written by like 11 composers, work well together, for the characters and are--wait for it--catchy or pretty or moving and all have a--wait for it--HOOK.

For those too young to remember, A hook is that few bars of a song which stick in your head long after the song is over, and what most songs in the golden age of musical comedy and the swinging sixties had in common, and what seems a virtually impossible achievement for composers in this, the new milennium, who have singers nowadays singing arrangements in lieu of a melody.

Anyway, if they made an album, it would be on my Walkman.

That said, I couldn't begin tell you what the show is about, and quite frankly I didn't care. It was all very theatrical and everybody was so damn good.

I also thought the staging looked great, but since the cast now has the director barred from the theatre pending Equity charges for putting their mental and physical well being in danger in rehearsals, I can't say how much is hers and how much is pure performers ingenuity. I lay you ten to one it's those wonderful New York actors.

Go see it if you can get a decent discount. Support those terrific guys! I know it's on TDF and shows up on other venues as well.

Wow, thanks for the review! I'll definitely be getting down there to see it soon...it's been on the TKTs line every time I've walked by it...$30 sounds pretty good to me :)

I met Julie Reiber last year and she is SUCH a nice girl and I'm really happy for her that she has a new project.
