Exactly. This is Grease with a green face.
Bye Bye, Witchie.
Little Orphan Elphie.
WickedGeek28- come ON, I just ate.
I just got a weird picture in my head of green John Travolta with a witch hat..
I totally understand why high shools are itching to do this show... but LEGALLY please...
...and in good time. We're living in an age where everyone wants whatever they want NOW. A nation of Veruca Salts. Guess what, babies? You're going to have to WAIT until it's not sold out on Broadway, or on tour, and the rights are actually released.
And that's not going to be any time soon.
For the last few months, it's been sold out, hasn't it? I guess it's from the new burst of Red Tracksuit Freaks from the Rent movie...
I do know where you can get the whole script to WICKED. Its on some website. I forget what its called but i have the whole thing printed out

I'm in WV and a local group did had a concert called "Songs from Wicked." I didn't get to go but apparently they did the whole score. I didn't go, but that's just what I heard. I thought that it couldn't possibly be legal, but it was really well advertised and they apparently got away with it.
I didn't read page 2 of this thread, so maybe someone mentioned this already (sorry!), but I know sometimes big colleges get special permission to do shows. A friend of mine goes to U of I and mentioned that they might be getting the rights to RENT next year (even though it's still on Broadway, the "real" rights aren't out yet, etc. etc.)
Songs from Wicked are terrible audition and duet pieces ... especially since Wicked is still on Broadway. Wait 10 years and try one, chances are it still won't work. Love the music and all, but I get tired of hearing the songs over and over again everywhere!
jessica, this "special permission" sounds like code for "We're doing it totally illegally but maybe if we lie about it, no one will know the difference."
I got a university with one of the most reputable theatre programs in the country and they still have to wait for the rights to be released just like everyone else.

according to what I read on the MTI site...
CURRENTLY RESTRICTED
when I asked about it, you can get the royalties under different conditions. like how close the tour comes to your area and whatever.
but yeah Rent is open for some areas
