Hey everyone! So, I'm not talking about the original sheet music, I have that score. Do any of you know how I could get a hold of the sheet music for the recent NY revival? I really want the music to You Don't Know....

Also, while you've clicked on this, do you know of either a) plans for an LA production (I had seen something in an article about it, but it was just a brief mention), and/or b)a recording of the original show?

Thanks! bare: a musical Sheet Music??

Do you mean a video or audio recording of the original show? There is a studio audio recording of the original show that has some of the original L.A. cast and some actors that didn't perform in either the L.A. or off-Broadway productions of it. On that recording, Peter and Jason are sung by Matt Doyle and James Snyder, respectively. They sound fantastic, both on their solos and on their duets - their voices blend beautifully. It was actually hard listening to the new revival after having heard the songs sung so much more beautifully on the recording.

As for a recording, Taylor Trensch said they are definitely talking about it, but they are still waiting for the green light. It seems like it is likely that the new cast will get a recording though.

Thanks guys! And adam, I have it (I also paid $20 for it, which kind of ticked me off, but that's another matter)- it's my favorite, all those cast members are so talented! And I have a thing for Matt Doyle...bare: a musical Sheet Music?? Was the new revival bad, or just not as good? bare: a musical Sheet Music??
Next2Noone, YAY! As much as I seem to be in the minority, I really like Taylor Trensch... And the rest of the cast, as far as I can tell.

Right now, I've been listening to audio recording people put up on Tumblr, it'll be nice to have a real recording!

For me, it was not as good as the original recording (and youtube video) of the original production. Both because the singing to me sounded worse than the singing on the recording (not in a live/imperfect vs. studio/perfect way, but the voices, interpretive choices made in the songs, etc.).

I also hated the way that the new production completely trashed Nadia's character - removed her two good songs and gave her a lame new duet with Ivy, and turned her from edgy and frustrated over being ignored and mistreated into randomly cruel. They also deleted "god don't make no trash", which was one of my favorites from the original.

The only bright spot for me was the nun/operator song - it was very well-performed in the 2012 revival. Everything else for me was better in the original and the revisal was frustrating in that it could have been so much better.

Considering Taylor Trensch couldn't sing on key for most performances, I can't see how a new recording would be any good. Add to that the lack of new songs that were any good, and you have no reason TO record.

You can see the entire NY original production on YouTube -- don't expect much from the quality. What you don't get in great video is made up for the fact that its Michael Arden singing!

SO MUCH better then the tripe that was off b'way this time around.

Yeah, at the performance that I attended in the 2012 off-Broadway revisal, Taylor Trensch was cringe-inducingly off-key throughout the performance, and even Jason Hite missed some key notes in his songs towards the end, plus chose some weird interpretations for some of them (i.e. when to go big and when to be quiet and emotional, etc.). I was assuming that in a recording, they could do multiple takes until they eventually hit the notes correctly (which could take weeks for Taylor), as opposed to the live performances being so imperfect, but even then the recording would still have the voices, which are not as good as the ones on the original recording, and the songs, which are not as good as the original ones, so it still would not be worth it for me even if they did manage to capture (or edit together) full performances of the songs being sung on-key.

...I kind of see what you mean (I went to Tumblr- I rarely fail to find things on Tumblr, even if I can't find them anywhere else) I just listened to All Grown Up- Elizabeth Judd was fantastic, but the lyrics are reaally bad. I just listened to Bare, and that's really pitchy, same with No Voice. But Absolution was good, as is Are You There. It might be worth a recording, if my very un-informed ideas about how recording works are correct...

OK, I have a question. (what's new?) I'm listening to A Million Miles from Heaven (from the actual show, not the one released online). A lot of people were saying they didn't like it because it didn't introduce the theme of religion, and Epiphany did. But this recording starts with a sermon? Is this a later change, or what?

I saw the 2012 production in previews and it opened with a Million Miles from Heaven with nothing preceding it. If there is a recording that opens with a sermon and then goes into that song, maybe it was added later during previews? And yeah, the lyrics to All Grown Up went from logical to bizarrely bad for no apparent reason.
