Ok i am jsut wsondering if anyone has seen this show yet and if so Why did you go? Was it any good? I was so upset when they performed yesterday at Broadway on Broadway. I didn't realize that it was ok for people on Broadway to Lip Sync. I made a couple of comments and i know they heard me i was right up front. something like oh Britney Spears can do this show , and get the fck out of here, stuff like that am I wrong?

I LOVE this show! I've seen it twice. The music is by far the best part, but there are some pretty talented actors in the show as well. The costumes are really fun, bright, and shiny, and there is an AWESOME "wet Sari scene". There is some lip syncing in the show, but they do sing as well, and there are a few characters-one in particular, who make this show lovable. If you are a student, I would say it is worth the 26.25. You'll have a good time.
If they performed Shakalaka Baby, it is supposed to be lip-synced. It is a scene where they are filming a scene for a Bollywood movie musical in a fountain. It's one of the most exciting musical numbers I've ever seen on stage. I loved the show and would easily go back and see it again. The score is fun and memorable with some gorgeous Hindi tunes. The story is a typical Bollywood underdog story. The sets, lighting and costumes are a sumptuous feast of color. The entire production was such a pleasant surprise, I just wanted to sit there after the curtain call and watch them do it all again.
Dirty, you need to chill out. That number is supposed to be lipsynced. It's a movie. That's the point. *sigh
I saw it in London and loved EVERY MINUTE of it.
Im embarrassed that anyone would scream at performers like that onstage. It is so disrespectful. Shakalaka Baby is a fantastic number. And Im sorry but I feel it does take some level of talent to lip sync well. I think the woman who plays Rani is fantastic and she is so much fun in that scene and in that show period! I cannot believe that anyone would just act so crass during a performance. You should not be boasting about the fact that you shouted at hard working talented actors. Bombay Dreams is a fantastic show, and worth seeing!

BOMBAY DREAMS is a lot of fun. I've seen it twice now--the first preview, and a performance the last week of August (three if you count the London production). The performers are extremely charismatic, and the music is infectious. The book is weak, but that hardly makes BD different from most other musicals currently running. Ayesha Dharker owns that stage. I saw her in London and this NY production, and she just takes over. It's a tribute to Manu Narayan's talents that he manages to hold his own. The SHAKALAKA BABY number is breathtaking. The music stays with you. I'm planning to come back in October, and this is definitely one of the musicals I will see.
If it's still open. Actually it'll probably close in December judging from box office.
That is SO RUDE that you made obnoxious comments audible to the performers. First of all, I don't think Britney Spears can tie her own shoes let alone dance like that. Although I felt that this show left a lot to be desired acting-wise and vocally (let's not even get into the book), Shakalaka Baby is a truly thrilling number.
I have seen it 4 times and would go again (if bought the ticket from the I love out-of-town visitors). The show has some problems but I consider minor because it's a spoof on Bollywood and if your not familiar with Bollywood movies then you may not really "get" BD, but it's still a VERY enjoyable show (dicounts galore, too).
I saw a commercial for it on TV and mistook it for The Ketchup Song.
I just saw the show last night and it is so much better than the two times I saw it in previews. Now a good few months into the run, everyone really seems relaxed and now more into making sure the audience is enjoying themselves. While some of the lyrics are hit or miss, the score continues to enthrall me, and the orchestrations are some of the most compelling and unique I've ever experienced, even compared to the UK production, which I saw a year ago. The choreography is so much fun to watch, and the costumes are just gorgeous.
Manu Narayan, who I was very unsure of in previews, has matured quite a bit in the role and I can say now justifies his leading man status. He does wonders with an occasionally creaky script, even makes the one cringe-inducing scene in the show (the Miss India pageant) a lot more fun than I remember. And may I say, he's a lot hotter than I remember...Anyway, Ayesha Dharker (Rani) is such a freakin' hoot, she cracks me up more every time I see her! Sriram Ganeshan (Sweetie) still struggles with pitch problems, makes up for it in the acting categories; thankfully he makes that big reveal scene a lot less stunted as it once did.
And Anisha Nagarajan has blossomed the character of Priya into a nicely layered performance, much less earnest and goody goody than I saw in previews, there's a lot more spitfire subtext built into the role now. Anisha and Manu's vocals are also a lot stronger than I heard before. While Manu still couldn't get that first big note, he absolutely nailed The Journey Home, I got shivers!
And the ensemble still looks and sounds great.
It's certainly not the best show, but it's more hugely enjoyable than I remember, and the audience (mostly caucasian) really ate it up! I gave the show a shot hoping for a marked improvement, and I got a lot more than I hoped.
This week, all proceeds from the performances will be donated to the Children's Hope Organization, with the donation going to help rebuild schools destroyed by the recent floods in India. Last night Western Union donated $10,000, there was a small presentation before the show began.
and btw, not cool to heckle loudly, and uninformed, for something you got to see for free, at performers doing what they can for you. hope it made you feel better.

i loved it, sure i've seen much better things. but the actors are energized and entertaining. i love the choreography because it's so different. i loved how the show stuck to it's theme of a bollywood film. sure it was cheesy, that's why it's fun. i just can't imagine being at a place where the audience isn't supportive even just for the performers efforts. that's awful!
