I saw the reading of it today at chelsea studios, and speaking from someone who does not enjoy "jukebox" musicals, I really liked this. It had a great book, full of hilarious moments that had the audience laughing many times, stopping the pace of the show.
The music (for the most part) was transitioned beautifully from the book into song. The best part was that they didn't try to use all of Sedaka's songs. ie: good vibrations and all shook up, where they try to pile in as many tunes as possible, because of bad book writing. This show is the oppostie. Great book writing with 8-10 well placed songs.
cast was good, with one exception. Meghan(sp?) Hilty was wonderful. This young chenowith look alike, is a consumate performer, and I hope to see her name in lights someday. If not with this project than with something else.
kudos for a jukebox musical with some heart.
That is great news! I hope it makes it, and does well. It seems like it will be a good show!
