It's funny how she can sound like a little five year old one second, but when she breaks into song (still in child character), she goes all diva and uses this adult voice.

Well, while in this show it certainly seems that she can't, I feel it is unfair to say she can't act all together until we see her in a show with decent material.

By watching him in Brooklyn, one would think that Kevin Anderson can't act. But he certainly can.

Besides, people don't come to see her act, I guess. They come to see her sing screech.

I guess I can agree with that.

"Mommy, Mommy"...well all I can tell you is those in the know say the producers were begged to take out that stupid little girl scene and they wouldn't do it...."Want to keep it raw" they would say..."Can't hire a little girl to do it"..."keep it raw and costs down"....I cringe at the "mommy" part as well as the thing about
"tears watering roses"....Can't believe they don't see the problems when they are so damn obvious.
Overall though, I can kick back and enjoy the show...It's got more holes than swiss cheese, but I have enjoyed it....I feel like getting back into my straight jacket now after saying that...but I enjoy that the show is different, I love the staging and I do enjoy most of the songs.
It's a shame they don't work on the weaknesses, but it is what it is and I'll see it again.

I personnally LOVE brooklyn. Eden and Ramona are my two current goddesses. Anyone who says its cheesy, i say thats sometimes waht broadway is about. Half the shows out there are really cheesy and just because it is doesnt mean u can't like it. O and her mom hanging herself on stage is cheesy?

~Peace Out~

Well, I'm going to see "Brooklyn" tomorrow night. I'm excited, scared and anxious. I've read hardly any good reviews, mostly bad ones...but, I think it's popular NOT to like this show. So, I'll see for myself. As for the vocals, I like what I hear. I guess Aretha Franklin and Chaka Khan (spelling) and other women with high belts have "screaming" voices...but, I like a high belt, so I'll enjoy that at least! re: brooklyn

Have fun at the show. I really enjoy the show, I enjoy listening/watchiing these actors.

Regarding the Mommy part, i laugh at it, I always think she sound like Tiny Tim at that part.

It's worth a shot/ :) www.freephotoiPods.com/?r=15009978

I know how many people said that they laughed at the mommy part and i just want you to realize---they are telling the story on stage. In the beginning they are "city weeds" who tell the audiance a story and each play a role. That is why Eden plays Brooklyn as a child as well.

I'm convinced that half the people on this Board who consistently knock Brooklyn haven't seen it. The story is NOT weak - it's a fable told by a collection of street performers who drop in and out of character. By it's very nature it's a simple and uncomplicated tale but it has a point to make and it makes it. It TOTALLY works as a piece of theater, in my opinion. Some of the naysayers should actually check it out, they might be surprised.

I loved Brooklyn when I saw it. True, it was cheesy but it is also a fairytale. You also can’t deny that some ballads in this musical are very well done in both the writing and singing. Without a doubt Brooklyn is the most fresh and high-energy show on Broadway. I would love to see it get a nom! As for Kevin Anderson swinging his hips in a towel off a clothesline well...maybe a little cheesy.

yea let me clarify. I saw it and yes i did love it. I say it's cheesy at some parts because it is. I know it's a fairytale. The hanging part i don't find cheesy, I never said that. haha the part when kevin is swinging his hips..that was funny. The music is great..the storyline ehh it's a storyline. I do like the fact that the ending wasn't obvious. I think having a twist made it a little better. I'm glad things didn't turn out all happy and perfect like a classic fairytale.

I saw it on Thursday for the first time and was pleasantly surprised. Of course, meeting my expectations wasn't too difficult because I wasn't expecting much based on what I've heard. The performers are all incredibly talented. The storyline is a little weak, but the singing makes up for that to me. It wasn't amazing, but I did enjoy it.

When I was walking past the theatre I read really fast that it was good because unlike rent which, at over 2 hours seems tedious and reduntant.... that's all I got since we were rushing.

But I never thought Rent was tedious and/or redundant...

What is it about Lucy?? I know she's a bitch, and yet I want to be her...
