Into the woods for sure. One of my first Broadway Cast Recordings and still one of my favorites. I don't know many of the others really well (though I own many of them, isn't that odd...)
Why do we play with fire?
Why do we run our fingers through the flame?
Why do we leave our hands on the stove, although we know we're in for some pain?

deary, don't get hairspray. it gets old fast. try SWEENY for sure, taboo, and into the woods. they are all scores of great substance.

Sweeney is an absolute must-have. I'd put Cabaret second, and than either Urinetown, Into the Woods, or Hairspray. The Man of La Mancha revival has the benefit of Brian Stokes Mithcell's incredible voice, but the rest of it isn't that great.

Sweeney for sure, Cabaret, and Taboo. A good mix. I personally would not buy ITW, especially if you're already getting ST.

Sweeney and Into the Woods have nothing in common but their composer. The former is much better, but that's no reason to avoid buying the latter.

HAIRSPRAY is an absolutely must. It's one of my all-time favourite cast recordings.

Follow feinstein9's advice - and get the original cast recordings. Hairspray is cute and all, but your collection needs a solid base. I couldn't do without my Sunday in the Park, Sweeney and Into the Woods. Then again, I couldn't do without my Company, Merrily We Roll Along or my Sondheim collections. So, take my advice with a grain of salt - Sondheim for me is like what "Wicked" is for a lot of folks here!
I sing for myself. I sing when I want, whenever I want to, just for me. I sing for my own pleasure. Do you understand that?

Are you eventually going to get all of them? Because if you really want to start with a solid base, follow feinstein's and BT's advice. Then work your way to get the three I pick:
Millie
42nd Street
Hairspray
Urinetown and Cabaret are excellent choices too.

I would have gotten Urinetown. Its great, Hunter Foster and JLT are great in it. There really isn't a weak song on that disc.
But, overall, great choices!
