Posted: 6/8/05 at 3:12pmSo I just looked on Google Images for Light in the Piazza pictures randomly, and I saw Celia in the picture with Victoria Clark! Can someone explain?? Why was she with the show/when was she with the show/why is she no LONGER with the show?? Also, kinda funny in the Tony Brunch video on bway.com that she mentioned how attractive kelli ohara is...i had no idea they were connected in some way!!

Celia was in the Chicago version of Piazza. She was actually quite wonderful. At the time, O'hara was playing Franca (wonderful in this role)! Celia was let go and then joined Spelling Bee. Worked out nicely for both of them... :)
And for the record - I find Celia to actually be more beautiful than Kelly...and least more unique (though they're both lovely ladies)

Posted: 6/8/05 at 3:22pmShe was Clara in the out of town (Chicago and others) run of Piazza. Kelli O'Hara played Franca. I guess when she got involved with Spelling Bee she decided to stick with it, and Kelli was asked to move up. I think it would be interesting to see Celia do Clara and Kelli do Franca...

Posted: 6/8/05 at 3:28pmShe was let go? As opposed to choosing to leave? I never saw her in the role, but I imagine she was quite good. She plays a childlike character in spelling bee as well so I can easily see her playing Clara

Posted: 6/8/05 at 3:29pmThat depends on which rumor you hear. Some say she was let go others say she left to go pursue Bee.

as far as I know - yes
And you're right - she was terrific. Then again, that doesn't always matter.

Posted: 6/8/05 at 3:31pmIt's no rumor. Let's just say she wasn't completely appreciated. Pity.

Because I know for a fact.
I'm sorry. I know that doesn't sound too convincing, but it is the truth.

correct. She is on good terms - though artistically a member of the creative team didn't think she fit.
Personally, I think she's fabulous and you're correct, it gave them both great opportunities.

DD, I love your posts.
Celia herself, in some interview (perhaps Broadway.com?) mentions she doesn't have a legit sound and was completely flabbergasted to be cast as Johanna (Kennedy Center's Sweeney Todd) and then to get into Piazza.
I even think she mentions it was sort of a mutual let-go and then Bee progressed at the same time into NYC.

She's quite legit actually (even if she doesn't believe so)
And keep in mind that people are never going to be completely candid in an interview.
Still - it worked out for the best.

Didn't someone post here that it was because Adam Guettel wanted the part to be played by someone more classically beautiful-- something to that effect?
I think they're both beautiful and I adore them in their current roles.

Anyone interested in this subject can also look in the "Adam Guettel is HOT" Thread......
Personally, I think she was let go, I can't imagine someone wanting to leave Piazza/Clara for Spelling Bee......Granted I don't know a lot about Spelling Bee yet, So I may eat those words......
Also, When (in terms of dates) was Celia, Clara, and when did Kelli take over??????

true about Guettel
and Celia finished after the Chicago (Goodman) run. I'm not a big fan of Piazza, but I LOVE Spelling Bee, so I'd have to disagree with that statement.

Posted: 6/8/05 at 4:36pmI was just about to start a thread on Kelli as Franca, but I read this. I honestly cannot picture Kelli as Franca. AT ALL. Did she play it like Sarah is now? Are there any pictures that someone can direct me to?

Funny about the comparison between the two looks-wise. I had not seen Celia (though I knew the background story of the roles) before Tony night and when they showed her I immediately thought that she looked identical to Kelli (without the blonde hair).
Of course, that could have been the angle at that moment...

I think Celia looks more believably like she could be Victoria's daughter.
I concur that Celia and Kelli give off a very different age - not sure why. And I agree that Celia feels more real and identifiable to me, not sure what it is.
I think it's ironic that Celia was formerly in Piazza but (at least how I had always heard it) left for Spelling Bee (I mean, c'mon, even if she was just not asked back, getting a personal plea from Bill Finn himself to be in his new musical ain't too shabby and is hard to pass up) and that Jesse Tyler Ferguson was formerly in Spamalot and left it for Bee. It's just...I dunno, it's just kinda cool I think that it seems to have worked out well for everyone this season...
